OK, so I got a new problem now. It involves the display starting to look "static", where the pixels on the display cut in and out randomly all over the screen(on UMC). Also, I have now had the unit lock up on me a number of times where the remote wont work any functions and I cant turn off the power from the front side. I have to turn the power off from the back side switch. Any clues? I think I have the latest firmware(said that in the box), but not sure of the version. Any clues?

Haven't had any of these happen with my UMC, and I'm not familiar if it's been posted, either. You can check the firmware status by pushing the following button sequence on the remote:
Mute Status Volume+
Current firmware should be W5.46.00.07.

Enough. Return it, obviously a defective unit.

Yeah, I would say give them a call. That sounds like a hardware issue. They'll fix you up ASAP if my past experiences are any indication.

I've had the same problem. It will just lock up and I have to use the back switch to turn it off. It just happens now and then.

No, it has nothing to do with the HDMI cables.......longest Im using is a 25 footer(1.3B spec rating)to the projector. All the source input HDMI cables are less than 3 feet in length. And they all worked flawlessly with my other AVR's and processors.
This display flickering and UMC lockups are a completely seperate issue.

I haven't had a display issue or a lock up issue but I have remote issues like you describe where none of the buttons on the stock remote or my Harmony One will work. It seems to be only after I've been playing around in the menu. If I just turn it on, select an input and go it's fine. It has nothing to do with HDMI that I can see. It happens for me using analog CD inputs.

Well I reloaded the control software into the UMC-1..........hasnt locked up yet, and MOST of the static is gone from the dispay, except at dim level setting #2. Does anyone else experience certain dim levels on the front display having static issues?

Does anyone else experience certain dim levels on the front display having static issues? Yes. Two as well...I leave mine on one now, anyways. I get the occasional "lock up" issue if I switch inputs too quickly as well. Come on SW update.

I think there was another user who had front panel noise issues... Does it happen when the display is dimmed way down? I wonder if it is just turned too far down- ie, worked at that level in the lab, but once you get manuf. variation it is pushed a little too close to the edge.

I had my first lockup last night. The power switch on the front panel was able to turn it off.

I believe the handful of similar reported issues were all with the #2 setting for the front panel. It may be a coincidence, but it looks like a possibility.
A couple of years ago, I think it was on this forum but won;t swear to it, I saw a post with another processor displaying the same type of front panel issues; and the poster was advised to check for a loose connection under the hood. After he re-seated the connector the problem was solved. If you feel comfortable removing the cover and checking for a poorly seated connection, it might eliminate this behavior -- worth a try. ;D

Does the problem NOT happen on levels both above and below the noisy setting?

Have not seen a report of this issue on any other setting.
