Well I reloaded the control software into the UMC-1..........hasnt locked up yet, and MOST of the static is gone from the dispay, except at dim level setting #2. Does anyone else experience certain dim levels on the front display having static issues? Yes me to on dim setting #2.

I'm getting the feeling that $699 is way too much for this unit.

I can't understand that. I have to import my unit, when all the taxes and everything are paid for my UMC-1 will cost me about 1k.
From what I have read and by looking at the specs I think it's a bloody bargain. Remains to be seen however, will get mine next week.

Personally for $700 I feel its more than a bargain too..........Im just annoyed by the small issues......the random locking up is driving me nuts........but I love the audio tweakability of the unit(especially the steep slope xover options for hi and lo pass), just waiting for the next firmware update............as this unit still seems to have a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Regardless Im keeping the unit. When working it does everything I need it to exceptionally well.

People are talking about "tweakability" but almost any AVR at $700 has plenty of it. Sure the bass management is nice but I've read it doesn't even work. Well, let;s just hope they get the XMC-1 right, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, I have. I returned it. No firmware updates via USB stick? What is this, 1999?

Of course it's a troll.
I have been reading these forums about a year now, didn't register until recently, and the quality of the posts and/or posters have dramatically shifted and not to the better.

I have been reading these forums about a year now, didn't register until recently, and the quality of the posts and/or posters have dramatically shifted and not to the better. The shift in the type of posting here on the Lounge could be attributed to the delay in the release of the UMC-1 and the issues it has had since its release IMO. People were frustrated with the delay and many posted that here. Now that the UMC-1 is in the hands of many users and there are a number of posts by people that are frustrated at its operation. I am one of those frustrated owners but will wait for Emotiva to release the next FW with the hope that many if not all the issues will be corrected. What I see more and more of is that a few select members here have to put their $.02 cents in when people post their frustrations that their UMC-1 is not functioning as it should. I really believe that if these select members would just let people vent their frustrations and not add fuel to the fire then there would be much less bickering here IMO. If someone posts here that owned the UMC-1, did not want to deal with issues, returns it and then posts he does not feel it is worth $699.00 that is not an issue for me. I mean if a UMC-1 owner posts here that he feels it is a total bargain and has had almost none of the issues reported here is not an issue for me either. But the person that vents his frustration is basically being referred to as a troll which I do not understand. Its OK for someone to sing the praises of the UMC-1 even though it does have its issues but when an actual owner voices his displeasure thats not OK . Doesn't make any sense to me but thats me . I think some on both sides of this saga have lost their sense of humor and should just repeat after me "its only a prepro, its only a prepro, its only a prepro......." ;D. Its really simple if you are not happy with the UMC-1 return it if you are happy with it enjoy it. Then if you wish to post your thoughts either way then why not . Bill

Guys, please let's all stay on topic. Refrain from calling others "trolls" or any other such names. Also refrain from expanding on others' posts where you feel they're being harsh on others. This only serves to propagate the arguments. If you like, you can always refer such behavior to one of the moderators. We all need to be mindful that we're all here for a common purpose. Criticisms are fine as are discussions but when posts begin to get personal we need to put a stop to it. Sure we can have disagreements but we're all adult enough to do this in a civilized manner. Let's have fun and learn from the community at large.

I just have to be more tolerant of the "drive by" postings with little or no context.

Bill Bill , you are correct in that this forum needs to be a place where members can post their problems and frustrations without being flamed for it. In this instance I was simply pointing out that Butcher had gone from "getting the feeling it wasn't worth $699" and "reading that the bass management doesn't work well" to owning one and returning it. FWIW and to help steer this thread back on track, I haven't noticed the vfd on my UMC-1 doing this but I normally keep mine set to "dim 0". I will turn on the display and check to see if my unit exhibits the same problems.

I think the presence of a few Mods here is a good thing to put out any fires and keep things on track . On that note I will try my UMC-1 as I also keep it on Dim 1 (as I have been referred to at times ;D). Bill

I have had the UMC-1 for about 3 weeks and have had very few problems that most have owners have.I just had it calibrated Monday evening and found that the manual speaker and subwoofer EQ was not working. This is a big deal for me as i do not use EMO EQ or any other automatic EQ and prefer to have it done manualy.I wikk give EMO a chance to fix this problem with the next upgrade as I love the sound of this unit and all the manual setting I can set.I also have a USP-1 which I can not use correctly because of the remote problem which I hear the fix is almost ready.I will give EMO a chance to fix the EQ problems but if they can not it will go back because it is such a big deal for me.I own many EMO products and they are all great and the cost savings is fantastic for the quality they offer my system.I wiil not bash EMO or anyone who says they are having trouble with their units but we ALL can deal with the problems in a human way as HEMSTER has written. This is a great LOUNGE so please lets ALL respect it for our sake.

Bruce , are you saying that none of the manual EQs work? This is odd...using REW I confirmed only that the sub EQ wasn't working but at least the front speaker EQs where in my unit. How did you test this?

I actually had my UMC-1 on Dim 2 and I do not have any issues with the display. I tried all the different settings with no issues with the UMC-1s display . Bill
