Your OPTIVA dream is just that - a fantasy. To think that an essentially single-product company could suddenly take over and manage multiple product lines well beyond their competence range (amps, processors and speakers are not playback devices) is at best a reach.
Amps and speakers are a doddle, Oppo has more than enough brain power on-staff to produce those devices. Pre-pros are, admittedly, more difficult to design and produce. But the stunning success of the BDP-83 proves that Oppo has the smarts to tackle such a project. And I would be willing to bet that their pre-processor would hit the market with far fewer problems than Emo's did. Remember, the UMC-1's release was delayed and delayed and delayed because they didn't want to release a bug-ridden product. We ALL know how well that worked...
Then, Hemster the Hell's Angel pontificated:
>> So should Harley Davidson buy Segway?... both have excellent products that work very well. <<
Hemster, do you know *anything* about motorcycles? If you think that Harley produces an excellent motorcycle, well, never mind - it's pretty obvious that you have already guzzled more than your share of H-D Kool-Aid.
Then Moe, the talking chimp, chimed in with :
>> Maybe OP should go to Oppos forum and ask them to make a prepro. I presume it would start out cheap, then be midpriced, then high dollar, but still look cheap.I also presume it would work pretty well and cost the same as many other good prepros,a few $k. <<
Gee, Moe, your statement would have just a wee bit more cedibility if you could show me a single universal disc player that performs as well as the OPPO BDP-83 for anywhere near its price. Feel free to take your time in researching this, I'm fairly certain that you will fail.
Secondly, Moe, I'll write this VERY slowly so you can more easily understand it - when you buy a company, the products that the company makes usually convey with the purchase of said company. So, if Oppo bought Emotiva, they would end up with ALL of Emo's current product line.
They could then take each product line (speakers, preamps, amplifiers, etc.) and begin the process of "Oppo-izing" them, one by one. This would probably result in an increase in quality, and maybe even a lowering of prices. It would also probably result in a vast improvement in the forecasting of realistic delivery times.
