Hello,
has anybody compared the USP-1 vs. Onkyo 5507 in a stereo setup?
I know the Onkyo sounds great in pure direct mode (CDs with Oppo 83, digital HDMI to 5507), is there a improvement possible? (Or will the USP-1 simply sound a bit different when using analog out of the ERC-1/Oppo?)

I'd like to know how the Onkyo sounds with the balanced outputs from the ERC-1 into the balanced inputs of the Onkyo 886.
Anyone have this combo ?

I have the Onkyo 885 and the USP-1 in my setup . I use the 885 for multi channel and the USP-1 for 2 channel. The USP-1 sounds much better to me in 2 channel than the 885. The phono input on the USP-1 is much better than the Onkyo 885. When I first got my USP-1 I had my ERC-1 hook up to both the 885 by balanced connectors and by rca to the USP-1. I could switch back and forth while playing a cd and compare them. I just use the USP-1 for 2 channel now.

I have the Integra 40.1 and the phono stage would be similar to the Onkyo. My USP-1 is miles ahead as far as sq. Even though the Integra (great for HT) networks with my PC I'm actually thinking of adding an external dac so I can use the USP-1.

I have talked to a lot of Lounge members who own the USP-1 and many of them are planning on buying the Emotiva DAC when it is released just so they can use their USP-1 like you are thinking about. If the Emotiva DAC turns out to be as good as we are expecting, the marriage of the USP-1 and the DAC is going to be very popular. I am looking forward to trying that combo to see if it lives up to its potential. ;D
