Mike, We must have different budgetary constraints if you think Krell, Belle and Cary are Entry Level pre/pro. LOL The article you linked to was talking about A/V processors selling for 10+ times the price of the UMC-1. On my budget, all of those units would be "High-end". Compared to some of the gear aimed at the Uber-rich customers I suppose you could view them as entry level. To me, entry level A/V processors would top out at around $2500. If the processors mentioned in the article feel like entry level to you, will you please adopt me? ...or at least put me in your Will? ;D ;D ;D

I was mocking them more then anything. Once you pass 2K for any one piece of equipment you are Uber-rich to me...

Remember this is the same site that reviewed the Lexicon bluray player and the reviewer thought it was better than the Oppo bdp because the tray on the lexicon was slightly less jittery and he saw a slightly better picture. Of course they tried to defend their claim, and mock their readers. Personally I refuse to patron the site any longer.
Not exactly the most scientific of research.

Those prices are FAR from what I would consider "entry level" I wonder what they would consider "flagship level" pricing.

Once upon a time I looked at Halcros and they are beautiful. Then I looked at the price and thought that was their phone number!

Once upon a time I looked at Halcros and they are beautiful. Then I looked at the price and thought that was their phone number! I owned a set of Halcro amps and their mid-level stereo preamp for a couple years. I used them to drive a set of Krell LAT-1 loudspeakers. A very nice sounding 2-channel system. Then last year I needed to generate some quick cash for a balloon mortgage payment... I was glad I had some expensive assets I could sell.

The least expensive was the Cary 11a at $4000 and it only has 2 hdmi inputs. And it's not a video processor, it's just for the audio side. You also need the 11v for an additional $3500 if you want a video processor. Or get a UMC-1 at $700, but it doesn't have an HD radio tuner like the Cary. Hmm, decisions, decisions...

$3500 - $700 = several HD tuners!
seriously, I do think Emotiva should include an HD tuner with RDS on the XMC-1. Huge difference in quality with HD-FM.

Hey, most of these expensive pre/pros don't even have a tuner! Also, that web site (from the first post), mmm... not that great ethics if you ask me. And the owner! Mmm... very suspicious individual from what the experts said before. Hep, back to our programmed schedule now. Well, I don't call these "entry level" pre/pros for sure (with telephone numbers as price tag!).

Interesting to see. I still think that the McIntosh have to be the ugliest damn things I have ever seen. They look so 80's ish they should really modify the look.
