I have an Oppo BDP-83 and UMC-1. What do you prefer bitstream or LPCM processing?

I've set mine to bitstream and like the results. Still unsure about SACD though which for now I've left as DSD. Guess I need to play with this some more.

Do a search, we've beaten this topic to death.
hemster, how are you using DSD when the UMC-1 doesn't even support it?

I had my 83 set to dsd and it still played. The way I understand it is the oppo converts to pcm if the upstream unit cannot accept.

Did you have analog inputs of some sort setup? In my use of the UMC-1 with the BDP83, when setting a multi-channel SACD to DSD, there was no sound. When I switched multi-channel output to PCM, everything played fine.

I do have analog outs from the Oppo connected to the UMC-1 but onyl for 2-channel listening. Unless I am absolutely mistaken, here's what I believe is happening with Oppo-->UMC: DSD - When receiving DSD, the UMC-1 (which does not natively process DSD to analog) converts it first to PCM and then to analog. PCM - of course the UMC-1 takes this and converts it to analog Perhaps Lonnie can chime and correct me if I am misinterpreting this.

The UMC-1 can't process the DSD to PCM or analog. So, I don't see how it could play anything from a DSD Bitstreamed source.

Neither one, Multichannel Analog connections sound best. * No need to argue either, it's only my opinion.

Well, certainly not a Blu-ray disc with a DTS-HD MA soundtrack, right? * Actually, YES, just do the decoding inside your Blu-ray player (Oppo BDP-83, Sammy BD-55 or 80, Sammy BDP-UP5000 or BD-P2500/2550, or any high end Denon, Pioneer Elite, Lexicon (Hiii), or any good BD players, Universal or not), and use the Multichannel Analog outputs straight to your A/V Receiver or Surround Processor Multichannel Analog inputs, and voila, best sound instantly created with judicious bass management.
