First...kudos to Emotiva for their customer service.
My UMC had all the usual bugs and a few all its own...like pin striping all hdmi video, even the OSD. Was dubious that the update was going to solve all the issues but it didn't matter since I could not get it to load properly...always had file path or file corruption errors. Emotiva sent me a new one w/o even receiving my original and then picked up the original...all on their dime and within 2 days of my call to them. That's service.
Now, new UMC hooked up...pure audio bliss. There is no doubt this processor puts out some serious audiophile grade sound...not only for music but HT is at a whole new level, sounds, separation and immersion that just weren't there before.
So far, so good. Now, for the interesting stuff. Last thing I hook up is the 5 channels out to the amp...was rushing and hooked them up to the "in" instead. So, of course none of my speakers were in play...but somehow the UMC figured out how to send the audio thru my tv speakers...even when I was using the ERC-1 or Blu-ray, lol.
Then, after reconnecting the amp I was getting some audio dropout over the hdmi STB connection...so, I did the usual and jogged back and forth between inputs to resolve it, and the UMC somehow reset the recorded program I was watching back to the beginning....twice.
That's right... I was 2/3 of the way thru a recording switched up and down on the inputs and the recording was reset to the start. This thing is beginning to scare me, lol. Anyone else run across this?
Bottom line...I think it will take another update or 2 to completely resolve the issues with this unit. But, what it can do for the $ is going to make it a category killer once they iron the kinks out. So, while it may provide some frustration in the near term, imho this may prove to be the best processor for the money for a long time to come...at least until the XMC shows up. Big props to the crew at Emotiva.
