... that the UMC-1 is not the only processor left on the planet with HDMI / audio handshake issues. The brand new, hot-off-the-press LG BD590 does not properly negotiate audio with the relatively newish, but supposedly quite stable Denon AVR-3310CI consistently. I have only experienced this when playing videos from the USB input, but I can consistently reproduce the issue. To date I have been unable to get a confirmation from Denon or LG on the problem. The BD590's going back anyway, it's a piece of ... wait, umm... following the rules here. It does not function in the way I would like it to function, especially not for its price point. The Denon AVR-3310CI is a pretty great unit so far. My intention is not start a bashfest here, but, I thought it would be worth pointing out two very new pieces of equipment having HDMI negotiation issues. It isn't just the old stuff, and it isn't just the UMC-1. And, well, at least we all have somewhere to go shout to the top of the text-based mountains when our UMC-1 has issues.

HDMI is evil. Its only purpose is to sell new gear every year. Just wait until the 1.4 units come out. ;D
At least it stimulates the OEM's economy.

HDMI really means this for me...
One cable to rule them all/ One cable to find them/ One cable to bring them all together and in the darkness bind them/ In the land of Hollywood where the directors lie
Long day and I am being whimsical....

Throwing HDMI into the fires of Mordor? Perhaps.
However an alternate solution would be to correctly standardize HDMI.......
Never mind, passage to the fires of Mordor granted.....

HDMI - it's just like wives. It's a nice idea and works most of the time, but, MAN, are there a lot of interaction conflicts.

So this is interesting...I am getting audio dropouts all of a sudden and I don't yet have a UMC-1 or anything new at all since this started.
In my HT I have a Denon 3806 I have been using for almost 4 years. The 3806 has a DirecTV DVR, a Denon DVD player, a Wii, and a BluRay player as video sources. I have 2 other TV's in the house each with DVD players and DirecTV receivers (neither of those has an AVR...they are just source to TV directly).
I NEVER had audio dropouts before. Now, I do...on all 3 systems - with DirecTV but not with any DVD player, the Wii, or the BluRay. (And yes...all sources are connected via HDMI to the device producing the audio.)
I should probably blame Dan and Lonnie for introducing the UMC-1 that led to global instability in the HDMI-net as the cause. But, logic prevails and instead I'll have to guess that DirecTV "upgraded" its firmware or something like that.
I'll have to check into this more...
At least the audio dropouts are short...a second or so. And the audio comes right back w/o any action...so far...

I've got a 3806 and a DirecTv HD receiver and have noticed the same thing as you. No problems from any of my other sources, so I'm attributing it to the satellite service.
