Wondering if anyone owns a Decco2. I'm a proud owner of a UMC-1 and loving the experience, wondering if anyone out there has a Decco2 and a UMC-1 and has any opinion on the DAC quality of both. I'm not looking to replace the UMC-1, I'm looking to add a new listening experience to my office, I'm wondering how they would compare and what to expect. The other option is to wait for the Emotiva DAC and plug into a UPA-2. Interested to see what people think.... signalpathint.com/index.php/decco2/

DAC is rumored to be out in May. You might also want to consider the USP-1. I hear it does better 2 channel.

I'm actually smiling, because your question is totally valid, but it caught my eye because you have now effectively compared what many (not all, not most probably, but many) would consider one of the most entry-line, lowest-grade DACs in mid-to-hifi audio (a Cirrus DSP, not even a discrete DAC) (in the UMC-1) to the entry level offering of what many (see previous qualification of the word many) would consider one of the finest consumer DACs in the world (the Sabre 9006 in the Peacthree). You know what? You rock! I think this highlights that you can basically enjoy any piece of musical hardware. To answer your question, in my opinion, I have heard the Peachtree unit in a couple different hifi stores, and I don't think it is any coincidence that several very competitive, we-don't-like-each-other-or-agree-on-anything stores all keep using it when I ask to demo their speakers - doesn't matter which ones, or which amp. For bookshelves, they'll use the peachtree for the amplification, for bigger speakers, they'll just use it for a DAC. Optionally, if the speakers would traditionally be a bit bright, they'll turn on that tube filter to calm things down a little. All of them unanimously admit (if you can get them talking about it) that it's a really super-convenient way of getting a really high quality DAC into the listening mix. I have not been disappointed in its sound. I have not done any critical listening, though, as I'm in a foreign (store) environment listening to unknown (different brands of new models of) speakers on usually unfamiliar electronics. There is a store here (I'm in SF again at the moment) that has a good selection of Arcam equipment (most Arcam stuff has Wolfson DACs) that I might go try to compare to the Peachtree. All of that said, I really do not think you can go wrong with the Peachtree. It is a very fine sounding piece. It also has the iPod dock option, for those silly enough to buy Emotiva level hardware and listen to it via an iPod. My tongue is in my cheek, but again, many (disclaimer 1) would turn their nose at the notion. Though, it is convenient. 1I essentially do something similar, but I use FLAC files that are easily clocked & transcoded by my source such that the excessive, non-native clocking and transcoding induced by an iPod clocked with jitter to USB to add additional jitter to DAC to analog sort of scenario is not necessary. See here hometheaterreview.com/ayre-acoustics-first-to-license-wavelength-audios-usb-dac-technology/ for high-end company with super-expensive solution to this. I think others may have now been announced/released, but I don't follow the iPod/iPhone/iWant/iGot scene all that much.

Bill, interested in your opinion here... (Sorry for the delay in posting). I love my UMC-1 but I expected a little more from my current Sonos implementation. It's connected via Toslink and I was expecting a bit more. Do you have any opinion on the Sonos DAC vs what's in the UMC-1.
In another room I have a BPA-1 connected to a Sonos Z80 doing the D-A work and it sounds good. Same speakers as connected to the UMC-1 in the main room. Appreciate your thoughts...

Bill,
I have a Wadia 170iTransport on order for my ipod classic. I will connect this to my UMC-1. Do you have an opinion on the SQ with this setup. I will also look at the Emo DAC when it is released.
Cheers, Dave.
