Howdy:
I did RTFM, and I found:
USING THE OSD (On Screen Display) The UMC‐1 has an easy to use intuitive OSD with an adjustable transparency presented over live video (HDMI only).
I interpret that as no OSD with component inputs and outputs. Is that correct?

PS. The reason I care is because I have about 30 ft. of component cable under my house that links the TV to the equipment rack. I have DirecTV and a BD player that output component, and I don't mind the audio codec loss I get from that mode. Also, my HDMI switch times are very short. ;D Someday I'll get under there and route a HDMI cable, but someday may be some time away...

The quote you posted from the manual is incorrect. The OSD works the same on component as HDMI. That being said, the UMC-1, in it's current firmare state, plays nicer with HDMI output than component output in my experience. My advice, order a long HDMI cable from Monoprice and prepare to get dirty.

Thank you for the reply!
That's mostly good news. I expect eventually I'll have to get under there, but I've seen enough folks having HDMI problems that I'd like to minimize it until I have to.
Thanks again,
