I love my ERC-1 and from what I have seen, I don't think I am the only one. That said, is there room for improvement? I would definitely be able to pay $800-$900 if Emotiva could legitimately take it to the next level. Or are we already well into the law of diminishing returns with the ERC-1? Mark.

Just for the record, i'd like the Emo Gods to know that i suggested this Mark. I actually called it an XRC-1 (feel free to use the name). Just wanted to throw this out there in case you guys decide to build such a beast and wanted to thank me (and Mark if you want) with a complimentary unit for this most brilliant idea i have provided. ;D ;D ;D

BAD BAD IDEA.
The Compact Disc is on life support. Physical Media will be a thing of the past much sooner than most people think. Who in their right mind would pay top dollar for a CD player when you can get a Mac Mini for 599?

Since I got my ERC-1 9 months ago I have purchased more CDs than I did the previous 4 years, while I won't single-handedly save the CD industry I am doing my part :-) - BTW I now own 2 ERC-1s

It would make more sense to build something like PS Audio's Perfect Wave Transport. Plays cd's but also high resolution wav, flac etc. files. For less than $3,000 too.

I've been intrigued by the Squeezebox Transporter, but not its price tag. The Perfect Wave Transport sounds even more cool. Just need some Emotiva pricing. Mark.

Maybe just a universal player that does BD's as well. If Oppo can do it then Emo can too. Of course it would be better then the SE for the same price.

I'm still one that prefers to have my music player and my video player in separate boxes. There's a reason I have a regular Oppo BDP-83 and a ERC-1. Mark

Dan Laufman was asking a group of us at the Axpona Audio Expo about our thoughts in what a new transport in the future from Emotiva should include. Not sure who said it, but that person pointed to the setup in the home theater demo room and said, "well your main competition is being used in your set-up right now", eluding to the Oppo 83. The very least, this tells me that Dan & Lonnie are definitely listening.

I wish Emotiva would take the CD playback to the next level, along the lines of Ayre or Bryston. Hell, I know they can, but the real question is, will people buy it? I would, no question. It probably doesn't make financial sense but sometimes I wish companies would flex their muscles and build a top flight component with market predictions be damned. Make it for the sake of making it, and let the meglo-corporate giants quiver with fear (that a small ID company can make a world class player that can compete with the best offerings from Marantz, Sony, etc) and the lucky owners drool. Why not? Maybe word is spread and cult status is born. Well, once the fervor fades, perhaps the losses might be too steep a price to pay and the prudent business owner avoids such temptations. Still . . . I wish they would. One can dream, right?

Mark I think same way, New player (to be successful) has to offer something outstanding like playing all kinds of AUDIO disks with stereo fully balanced XLR outs. I mean CD, SACD, HDCD, DVD-Audio. Because BDP-83 is really good and just another 'BDP-83' like player would have hard time to became successful, IMO.

I think it would be interesting to learn from Emotiva (ie Lonnie ;D:)), if improvements to the ERC-1 would come from a better "transport"/player, a better DAC section or both. Emotiva is probably one of the few companies that would provide us with a no-bullshit answer.
My theory would be, that there is little improvement to be had in the transport section. IF that is so, then why not give us a "hdmi dac", that can be daisy-chained onto an existing hdmi chain (along with other inputs of course).
The alternative is to go head-to-head with the likes of Oppo and Sonos in producing great players and transport. In both cases this would mean some serious software and R&D investments from Emotiva, and it might not speak to the strengths of Emotiva's current profile. I would be perfectly content with getting the low-end Oppo bluray for its digital playback, an erc-1 (or other emo pure-transport) and then sharing a high-quality emotiva hdmi-dac for both of them, as well as for any other digital transports the future might favor.

Actually in iTunes you can chose what kind of file to download . Really? I thought you could choose what kind of files to rip from your own CDs, but that you were stuck with the standard format on all the stuff bought from the iTunes store? I'll have to check this again.
