The concept is not snake oil as I previously thought. I just got in my other amp stands so each XPA-1 and my dac/pre is on their own stand. The soundstage is more 3D, has more air, wider, and just a tad deeper. The stage is "floating" more is probably the best single descriptor. Here's a quick iphone (crappy) pic: They didn't ship the spike screws for one stand so it's just a tad shorter as you can tell (left one), but the amp is still isolated from the floor from the table mounting system on the Adonna stands. I'm about done with the rig for now. Still got to paint the GIK diffusors and hang the GIK panels. Thanks for looking!

The stands that the XPA-1's are on are AV45 series: adonacorporation.com/av45as.htmlThe stand in the middle is their micro series: adonacorporation.com/zeromx1.htmlOh and thanks for the compliment! I got stuck listening for much longer than I had intended last night.....kept getting goosebumps! Oh, and I ordered them direct from Adonna. Paul and Renee are GREAT to work with!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I do really enjoy the rig. As far as a better pic, as I said that was an iphone 3g pic, in low light. Terrible. We do have an el-cheapo digi somewhere but who knows what box it's packed in. I'm kinda hoping they announce the Panasonic LX4 soon. If the camera shows uo someday then I'll be sure to snap a shot

I have also added Sound Anchors which help them out quite bit. If you like maggies, then these should be on your must hear list. They are better than the 1.6's to my ear. I like the narrower mid panel as I think it helps reduce beaming. Also that mid plays from 160-8,000+ so there's no phase shifting or crossover artifacts in the meat of the music. Thanks

Jason, those IMO have to be extremely high on the list when it comes to great looking speakers! Hope they sound as cool as they look. ;D Very Nice Stands!

I can see where some folks would like them though. And I did, too, at first. But after you get used to them, it's apparent their cosmetics could be vastly improved. I like the way Maggies look better. Good news is they sound pretty darn good. They might be a little shy on dynamics, but what inefficient planars are (except for the REALLY huge ones) They WILL take some power though...I can get my XPA-1's to clip easily. It's all good, though as I'm pretty much at the upper end of my 'too loud'

Yes, I see that the sensitivity is very low. One test said it dropped below 80dB's at points. You definitely need the XPA-1's.

Thanks Definitely agree with you on the beaming. My old LFT-IVs didn't beam nearly as much as my Magnepan 1.5s but the trade-off with those ETs were the bass. Couldn't produce enough bass and when I gave them more power, the mylar would hit the magnets and create an annoying rasping sound. But the mids and highs definitely would rival the Magnepans, including the 1.6s. But the most beaming speakers that I have experience with are with Martin Logans. When I had those, I felt that in order to get the best out of them, you felt you had to be in a vise. Any small movement away from center and the sound would drastically change for the worse. Even their largest speakers I demoed did this. But they do have a midrange that sounds great.

jason,
i had a pair of speakers back in the mid 80s of a similar design concept. the mid and tweeters were planar magnetic and the woofers were xover at about 80 to 160 hz. you could tailor the xover. at that time they were about 5000 dollars and were only superceded by the infinity reference standards which at that time cost about 50,000 dollars of which only the uber-rich could afford. these have been my favorite speakers of all times but they are highly impractical in my world now and not real useful for surround sound. i had to divest myself of those and all my high-end gear as my family grew and am only recently getting back into the game. thanks for the memories.

What vibration are you isolating? I thought solid state amplifiers have no moving parts.
Do those legs have suspension systems?
Either way, the systems looks killer! I wouldn't mind having those amps that's for sure.

Vibration from the sound loudspeakers produce in the room picked up by components and cables are thought to add noise to the system. It is easily demonstrated. www.dakiom.com/news_views.htm#article2

It is easily demonstrated. www.dakiom.com/news_views.htm#article2That's why I place large rocks on all of my components and wrap my components in "bubble wrap". The big problem is that the speakers move air which hits everything in my room causing vibrations...so now I listen to everything in a vacuum. Finally solved that vibration problem! (I think that vibrations cause small to inaudible effects on your stuff and that there are better tweaks you can be spending time on....IMHO. I also don't even play the actual CD or music anymore, I just read the reviews about the music and then imagine what it sounds like. Extreme measures, I know, but it is worth it. Soundstage has opened up beautifully and there is no trace of jitter anymore. Speaking of which I also don't drink anything with caffeine 24 hours before listening so that my own vibrations don't interfere with the experience.
