I have a PS3 running though a umc-1 and being displayed on a projector. I was trying to play a video game on the PS3, Call of Duty. It's a first person video game. While playing, the video output is very 'jumpy' and tends to lag in response to the controller. It was virtually impossible to play the game properly. When I connected the PS3 to my Samsung HD TV directly, the game played perfectly. I tried a search on the forum for PS3, but the search require a 4 letter word...insert 4 letter word joke here. Has anyone had experience with this and successfully resolved it. I played with the settings on the umc for bit with no change in the video output. Thanks, ebam

Hi ebam,
My guess is you're going through several video conversions. I play my PS3 through my UMC-1 and onto my InFocus IN76 projector often, without the jumpiness and lag you speak of. I'm assuming you've already gone through and turned down/off all lip sync type adjustments in all the components...
First, what is the native resolution of your projector? 1080p or 720p? That's what we'll be shooting for, to remove the need for the projector to scale the image...
Once you know your native resolution, go into your PS3's Display settings and ensure you're set to output that.
Then, go into your video setting for the UMC. Rather than using Auto or Passthrough, I currently recommend setting it to your native resolution.*
By having everything set to your native, you should (in theory) only have to scale once, in the PS3 itself, with minimal intrusion in the rest of the chain.
Try that out, and let us know how it goes.

*Auto uses your projector's EDID information, which sounds like a great idea, in theory. However, I have a 720p native projector, which is capable of handling 1080p input. The UMC sees 1080p, and says great, I'm giving you that! The PJ handles it fine, but I'm going through another scaling event that way. Passthrough might work for you, as the PS3 would be outputting the desired resolution, but if you ever hit a 480i signal from another source (old NTSC, LaserDisc player, non-progressive DVD player, etc...), your UMC will reset itself to 480p globally, even if you switch back to a nice hi def signal, requiring you to go in and manually change the resolution again. This is one of those things I hope is fixed in a future firmware version. I'm fine with the force to 480p on 480i signals, but if I subsequently go back to a higher resolution, the UMC needs to go back to passthrough...

I have ps3, hdmi to UMC, hdmi to epson. All I play is cod and have nevr had an issue. I have the projected set on 1080p, the UMC set to 1080p and the ps3 to 1080p. Everything works like a chArm. Or maybe not, no, no I just suck at video games.

Another here with frequent COD, PS3, UMC-1, and projector usage. I have no jumpy or lag problems with my PS3 set to 1080p and the UMC-1 set to 720p (for my 720p projector).

OK you mention a projector, and then a Samsung HDTV......2 different TV's? This a front projector or an encased RPTV?
I run both a Viewsonic Pro8100 at a PT4000 Panny projector(about to send it back for another Pro8100), and no issues with lag at all. My UMC-1 is set to PASS thru, which is IMO the best way to have it set, especially for games.
