Last night I tried to hookup mt new hsu subwoofer to my emotiva lmc-1. Ran the rca cable (sw to the rca on the sub), set all speakers to small, turned on the sub expecting to hear clean, awesome bass, and nothing - screwed around with it for a couple hours and went to bed in despair. Any advice?

Did you do a speaker calibration (where the whitenoise goes from speaker to speaker)? It includes the subwoofer so you'd at least hear rumbling and know it's connected right, the sub works, the levels aren't too low, etc.

I'm not real familiar with the lmc-1, but mabey I can help with the Hsu. 1. Make sure your getting power to the sub a. Most Hsu subs have a "dual voltagr switch", generally down by the power switch. make sure that this is set to 115V. b. Make sure the power cord is plugged into a working outlet ad is firmly plugged ito the Hsu. c. Toggle the power switch to "on". There is a small LED light on the back pannel, it should glow red if your getting power and the sub is turned on. If not, you've got a problem with the amp, possibly a bad fuse. If this is the case, contact HSU. 2. Test the signal. a. There should be a toggle switch on the Hsu marker "crossover".set this to "out" This will allow the sub to reproduce any signal that it recieves from the lcm-1. b. make sure that the RCA cable is firmly connected to both the sum and tehe lcm-1. c. Set the volume control on the Hsu to about the 10 o'clock position. d. Feed a signal from the lcm-1. As bfisher recommended, test tones a a great way to do this. when the Hsu detects bass, the led should change from red to green and, if your using a test tone, you should get some bass from the sub. If your using music, you need to be sure that it contains some bass deep enough for the sub to detect, the demo disc that came with the Hsu has a lot of deep bass. If this doesn't work, you'll need to go through you setup on the lmc-1 again to make sure that subwoofer is set to "yes"

Not sure with the LMC, but other processors sometimes have a selection in the menus to recognize that a subwoofer is connected. I had the same problem with my sub until I went through all the menus in my processor and source components.
***Just reread the above post which may confirm my suspicion.....

Did all of the above - except get to the submenu that allows me to "turn on" (the "yes" referred to in one of the posts) the sub. For some reason the processor would not, or did not recognize that command, or the presence of the sub. Very Frustrating. Any other suggestions?

Karl, I hate to say this and no offense intended but the problem you describe about 99% of the time is attributable to "pilot error."
I suggest you start out by reading the manual carefully if you haven't already done so. This might not apply to you but I am always surprised at how many folks have not read the owner's manual. If you can't find it you can download it at the Emo site. One mistake I have made in the past is to confuse the sub "in" and the sub "out" jacks on the back of the pre-pro. Also, many pilots get confused when they are working with a two channel setup only. If all else fails call Emotiva Tech Support. Please report back if you solve this problem. ;D

Absolutely no offense taken. In fact the "pilot error" metaphor was apt. I did, in fact, confuse the sub in and sub out connections (I think because the "in" was covered by other cables and I needed to work in a very tight space). Once I switched them, got to the sub menu, and switched it on, pure, deep, bass, poured forth - tested it with "The Dark Knight" and rattled the windows. Awesome. Thanks to everyone who helped out - wouldn't have figured it out without everybody's aid - made me think it all through, several times. Great forum, smart guys (and girls).
