I am a little unsure of how to setup the video settings with the UMC-1.
I always get confused when you have two different places in which you can make adjustments. First is always which makes more sense to do the adjustments and then the other question is always what default should I set the other unit to.
If I am setting the color, contrast, etc settings and using a calibration dvd...where is the better place to make the adjustments? Do I adjust the televisions settings or the UMC's? Lets say you set them on the UMC then what should I set the Television to?
Any guidance would be helpful!

Good question. I too would like to know the answer. My guess is tv settings to the middle of the range then use the umc to adjust as it would be superior in it's capabilities.
I'm going to throw in one more variable. My Oppo can be adjusted too, at the moment I have left them alone.

I thought the same thing about the settings on the tv..set them to the middle, But Wouldn't I rather have the Contrast and brightness down to save bulb life? It is almost getting to the point where everything is too tweakable, in other words so many adjustments possible that it is too easy to get them wrong.

As there has been no response so far I will post what I think is best.
I will make all adjustment in my Oppo 83 and have the video on the UMC set to pass through. I will have my TV adjusted to the middle of the range.

What I have done is properly calibrated my tv based on a calibratoin dvd, and went back into the Emotiva and adjust the settings to best mirror the original calibration on the tv with the calibration dvd again.
The UMC had adjusted things such as sharpness to far with the middle of the range settings so I had to go back in and readjust the sharpness down. I also did this with the other settings.
I cannot use passthrough because when i play blurays, while my TV accepts 1080p it is not a native 1080 display so the Emo would downconvert to 480p. So my only option was to choose 720p on the UMC.
