...and then there are others (like me) who are fanboys despite not owning any Emo gear at this point of time (that will change soon).
But, seriously - their firmware upgrade process could be handled in a FAR better fashion.
For e.g., - ratmice mentioned the 44.1 KHz click issue - he should have been given the firmware to test. Similarly, if they handed out advance copies of the firmware to 10-15 people who reported most of the problems and THEN released it for everyone else (a week later?), then there would be less complains about this new firmware.
Also, re: the actual update process - what is stopping them from doing this:
(will need additional code in NEXT firmware release to accommodate this)
1. Insert an option in the MENU called Firmware Update. 2. When the user chooses this option, the UMC-1 looks for a special file in a USB stick connected to the USB port. (yes, you will still need a A to B cable) 3. The User selects the file and applies the update. No need for a computer....

The umc1 is $699, sounds just as nice and can be upgrade BY THE USER. Is that before or after you borrow your neighbours desktop PC because the three PC's you own didn't work. I'm not bashing the product, I really wanted one! I got the email today saying it would be ready next week. But even at $399- I would still pass.

I wish I didn't install the new FW.There is too many issues now. DTS 5.1 sounds like Multi Ch Stereo voices coming from all speakers even in Direct mode Frequent audio dropouts in all dsp modes Emo Q worked fairly well before this new FW, now it is just useless If there is way to go back to the previous FW I might do it Otherwise ,I am returning it

Emo Q did NOT work well prior to this. That is what one of the main issues was with nearly everyone.

Emo Q did NOT work well prior to this. That is what one of the main issues was with nearly everyone. Emo-Q did work fine for some people. It also didn't work fine for others. It will probably be a bit better overall, but worse for some now, as it's an algorithm, and when you make positive changes for some, you will likely make some not-so-positive changes for others. It's a balancing act that I imagine will take some time to iron out to the satisfaction of most.

Can't say for certain without knowing how the unit is designed, but this likely requires hardware that is USB Host. I'm guessing that they can't do this or one has to think they would have from the start. It is possible, as other brands in the market do have this type of upgrade process. The age of the original design here probably means that it wasn't in their budget at inception of the project.
