Did anyone try this, yet? Is it even possible?

I posted this in another thread. I called customer service today and was told the older firmware could be reloaded after loading V6, IF you still have a copy. Emotiva does not have a copy available on its website. Maybe Emonatics could get a copy of the last version and make it available on its site?

Wasnt the V5 firmware only 2 files? And the new one was 3 files?

Based on very early experience the V6 software has been a step backward for me. Things that were working okay for me (DSP) are not useable. I'm changing all 2 channel sources to Direct to avoid the flakiness that I've gotten in just the first hour or so of V6.
V5 was working quite well and I was not really experiencing any problems.
If Emotiva gives the go ahead, I may well flash back (back to the future?) V5.
From an analysis going forward, shouldn't it be possible to track the changes made between V5 and V6 and isolate where things are going wrong. For instance, I was having relatively few instances of front sound dropouts when changing channels on my Fios Motorola box. With V6, it is happening an order of magnitude more often.
I am speculating here, but maybe Emotiva could consider more targeted firmware updates going forward to help address high priority issues and try to nail these down. People with the problem could test and iterate faster and give quicker feedback to finally put the nail in some of these bugs.
Just some rambling thoughts?

Yes!!! Just tried and no problems. Still same issues that were there before but way better then V6 as far as stability with the audio dropouts

Maybe because the missing file is responsible for the PLIIx?

So I reinstalled V5 of the firmware...but now I have some really weird setting stuff. When I go in to set the speaker size and crossover I cannot change the crossover points consistently..and by this I mean sometimes they won't change at all and I have to exit the menus and go back in. And then it doesn't give me all the options it should. I will go from 114 to 117 to 65 to 72 to 32 to none. and those are my only options. Any Ideas?

Guys, please don't do this. Sorry, I just landed, and I don't have a lot of time to go into the details as to why this is such a bad idea, but don't go backwards - not yet. Emotiva will need to release a complete package of backward firmware for this to be successful. Firmware needs to match, and there isn't just "one firmware", there are several firmwares on the UMC-1 (or any other processor). If you start mixing and matching, you're going to get very 'interesting' results.

So do I go back to V6?

Also interestingly enough the audio drops I had with v6 that I didn't have with v5 are gone now that I have gone back to v5.

Good - that means there is a solution for the "audio drop". Sure, the Cirrus chip is "difficult" to code for, but there can be a stable solution.
As I keep saying - the developers are mucking up the code - every single time. There is a problem with EMO's "code release" procedure...

According to vincedog3: "Also once the new DSP code is installed, you cannot go back to the older version."
