Ok I have tried everything short of contacting Emotiva support but my umc-1 is in some sort of endless loop. I was in the middle of installing the new FW v6 when my computer messed up so I had to start over.
I wanted to just start all over but my I can't get the umc-1 to go back to the main screen so I can do a factory default. Right now the display reads "Loading" with the little dots going across the screen. No matter what I do, I can't get the umc-1 back to the main screen. I have tried turning it off on the back of the unit and waiting a bit but when I turn it back on it just keeps saying "loading"
Thanks

That's what we call a brick. You will likely have to send it back to rectify, but I hope not. Try the unplugging thing for a few minutes and repeat a couple of times. See if you can install the FW even without the UMC in the correct state, may work. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Thanks ratmice and klinemj for the advice. I will call Emotiva tomorrow if it remains in that state.

I have seen this. Power off your UMC-1 from the rear switch, leave it off and unplugged for about a minute. Unplug all HDMI cables from it. Power it back on in the back, but DO NOT press the front power button. Leave it in standby mode and restart the DSP flash.

I did manage to get the umc-1 to standby mode and I reinstalled v5 FW. The overall sound output is lower but everything else works ok. I am unsure if I will try to put v6 FW back on. Thanks again.

You're very welcome. If v5 is working for you, then stick with it for the time being. If there's something in v6 that you need, don't be afraid to do the upgrade, at least not from the perspective of accomplishing the update. I have not seen a "bricked" UMC-1 yet. The above procedure has recovered all of them that I know of so far.

Nice job guys. Glad it got sorted. Agreed. It's cool how so many people here are trying to help each other. I'm almost ready to hop a plane to Tennessee so i can look at the debug output of some of these HDMI/audio acquisition issues. Even the crappiest silicon can be fooled. Trust me, I worked on the team that debugged the Pentium Pro.

Thanks for your help on THAT issue too R Those chips were pretty solid, the chipsets were a whole 'nother story. I think those were like the 440BX platform or something like that. There was a (nice, sorta weird) guy working down the row in a cube doing line-by-line code review of those things. It was a lot of revs and post-processor release later before the chipset for the dual-proc (and later the 4-proc) platform was stable. It was really fun, though, I mean, if you're a geek. We had this HUGE, like, 3 feet by 4 feet "motherboard" with a ton of manually soldered patches and 4 slots with buffer boards and PCI slots that no one had seen before, running 133MHz engineering samples of the PPro - good stuff - though, I don't miss those days ;D just fond memories.

We're having fun at this point ;D I'm hoping we get some definitive information on some of these PL-II issues, etc., and that we can get a DSP patch shortly.

I have tried to close as many programs as I can but it is still not working. I followed Emotiva's tech support in closing programs. I did manage to get everything downloaded one time with v6 but it would not work when I tested things out. Tech support said my computer probably corrupted the files with all the stopping and starting. I may try v6 tonight again At least I know I can reinstall v5 if I have to. Thanks. Matt

Matt, Did you try using Bills updated USB express files? They seem to be much more stable then the ones provided with the Emo installer.

I did call Emotiva tech support when I first had the problem getting the v6 to work. They gave me some good suggestions which I tried but I still have not had success. I will give them another call now that I have the loop thing solved. Thanks again for taking care of everyone. Matt

Matt Matt, while I hate to outright disagree with someone... ok, no, I don't, but I like to play nice here. There's no way starting and stopping the update corrupted the files on your computer. To check that, go to the Emonatics UMC-1 Firmware page and use the MD5 checksum utility against each of the .upg files and ensure that the checksums are right. As mentioned here, did you upgrade your USBXpress driver to the 3.2.2 version at the Emonatics site? If you've done both of these things, and it's still not working, let us know here. I might be able to have you dump some info from your computer that'll tell me what may or may not be causing your issue.
