There is seldom a truly "bug free" unit made by anyone...forget the updates, call, have it shipped "as is" and enjoy the damn thing, which is what I did with NO REGRETS. Mine arrived w/v5 but on the day v6 firmware was available, patched to b1 and now to b2 and regardless of anything at issue, I like my UMC-1 and would do it all over again if needed.

I can see where gilbertma is coming from .... I just installed mine. It was shipped to me when the coast seemed clear from the V6 upgrade and I left it in the box in the dining room after seeing that the audio dropout issue was not resolved. After seeing the positive notes about the beta2 I pulled the unit out of the box yesterday and installed the beta upgrade only (I would really have preferred it come loaded with this but doing the install was not incredibly painful.. I somehow got the process correct after about 2 hrs). So far my UMC-1 looks and sounds incredible...
At any rate... some of us are happy to be testers... and others want a finished product that they don't have to fuss with. I don't want to be on the bleeding edge, but I'm also tech-y enough to want to be towards the front and not the back.... To a certain extent, I think that any emotiva product is going to require a certain amount of effort from the owner. This is a small market item... Even large manufacturers have products that have teething issues... I am happy I did not have to deal with a lot of the frustrations that some on this board have experienced and can say that the V2 beta makes a product that may not be perfect, but it is something one can be proud of.
Gilbert, now might be a good time to have one shipped...
