Hi there, Please let me know why I can not listen my DTS CDs? I have ERC-1 connected via optical cable to UMC-1. When some DTS CD is playing on ERC-1 is red "dts" logo and counter is running. On UMC-1 "DTS CD" input has assigned correct optical input but on UMC-1 display it is "no audio" information. What is the reason Where is the problem regards

Isn't the ERC-1 a "pure" CD player? I am almost certain that "DTS" encoded discs are not supported on it.
Your Oppo should play it just fine....

It shouldn't be necessary, but have you selected the "DTS" mode on the UMC-1 to see if that triggers it to recognize the bitstream?

As far as I am aware, the ERC-1 does not have a CODEC for DTS discs. You won't be able to play them back.

I am almost positive the ERC-1 does NOT support DTS. I cannot ever remember seeing or hearing anything that would lead me to think it would. According to the ERC-1 Product Page, this is what is supported:
Playback formats: Red book CD, HDCD, MP3
As others have pointed out this was never designed to handle high resolution formats like SACD, DVD-Audio or dts audio. The ERC-1 is designed to by a superb Red Book/HDCD player; and, it is focused on being used with analog circuits for optimal performance.

I found it odd that the OP said he saw the red DTS symbol light up on the ERC-1 panel. I don't think it does that..

Maybe you are right but why a DTS CD is playing? on display the DTS red indicator is switching on. I can change the tracks, counter is running, only this silence in speakers.... I don't understand I must check my OPPO via FO cable

That would be interesting - monkumonku - you have both devices - if you have a DTS disc, can you check for us? But one interesting thing is that the "drive" inside the ERC-1 is DVD-capable drive - meaning it will "run" regular CDs, DVDs, DTS discs, DVD-As and SACDs. What it will not do, is "process" anything other than regular CDs. Even the DAC in the ERC-1 is DSD capable. That portion is not "enabled" due to licensing issues. (I can bet that Lonnie could, given a few hours, make a "test" ERC-1 play a DTS disc or SACD ...

Your BDP-83 will play them without a problem.

I believe DTS on a CD is a 44.1 bitstream so I'm not sure why it couldn't pass that to the UMC-1 for decoding ... but there may be more involved. I'm no authority. I'll try mine tonight when I get home.

Since it plays MP3 and HDCD audio, the hardware / software can recognize DTS, but it is disabled due to licensing. Just a wild guess though! Doug

EMC-1 shouldn't need anything to play a DTS CD, almost any CD player with a digital output will play DTS CD-s but few ever mention it. HOWEVER there are DVD-Audio discs that have a DTS track that will not play on a CD player.
You can also copy a DTS cd onto CDr just like a regular one.

I do have ONE DTS disc, Steely Dan's Gaucho. I will have to try it when I get home. Oops.. I shouldn't be on the lounge board so much if I am at work, huh? ;D Especially at such high RPM's (refresh per minute)

It is picking up the DTS flag in the stream, it should be playing. If the ERC-1 is showing track information, it is reading the disc, otherwise you would get a disc error. Have you tried any of the DSP modes to see if you can get sound?

switch the cable on the Oppo over to the ERC and see if you get sound through that input

You might try the neo, DPLx, or others but first try take the cable from the back of the Oppo and try it in the ERC, I suspect it is an input problem or a setting problem.

switch the cable on the Oppo over to the ERC and see if you get sound through that input after switching the cable from ERC to OPPO the DTS CD is playing, but only one truck. I must switch sound mode on each track... Additionally I have a problem with sound from my SAT tuner. When I change channels the sound is off. I think that the latest FW upgreade has not solved all UMC problems
