Hi everyone. So sometime back we created a pilot thread to get forum member and emo staff feedback on using a tracker tool to keep up with the UMC-1 datapoints everyone would experience versus having it get lost in a thread.
I have been really amazed at the participation from our little family as projects like this are only successful with the broad participation that we have been giving it.
I receive from time to time emails with requests for improvement.
Here is what I cannot do. - Create custom views on the data - Create reports from the data
This is a new application from Google so there are some limitations but I have sent them an email. All in all this is the easiest solution that does not require hosting or hosting fees for other solution types.
I can add more data inputs to the form if you think that there is something we can add that could be more useful.
Ideas such as;
- Serial Number - This could potentially trend that a certain batch of units have a defect
- Firmware transport OS used where this would be a picklist with 1) XP 32 2) XP 64 3) Mac et cetera
To add a new column requires a new input form and I do not mind doing it if you all think there is other information that could be really useful. Let me know and we can make an improvement.
Most of all I think it is really cool how we all work together on this. My stake is helping the UMC so I can get the XMC but otherwise it is because I just like all you and find us to be a good group of folks that are fun to hang out with.
regards, SnS

Emotiva should use a professional bug tracker like Mantis or Bugzilla.

Emotiva should use a professional bug tracker like Mantis or Bugzilla. It has been stated that they do (use bugzilla), but they aren't going to open public access to it.

We are in the middle of a beta test. Emotiva should start managing it that way.

I request some evidence that Emotiva is actually looking at this before you bother to make a second version. Not one comment since inception.

I think it's really admirable, trying to help other people, most you don't even know.I'm sure Emo had a good look at the 1st version. They may not have dealt with every issue posted but I'd say it was/is still very valuable to everyone. It's your time, so if you think enough people appreciate it............I know I did.

I seem to recall that Lonnie mentioned that they had used the Tracker Tool as a reference for some of the UMC-1 issues.

Lonnie did say that they looked at the issues logged in the tracker tool. I'm for improving this tool. I can help with some things. Stickandstones, we will talk offline about how I can contribute.

sticknstones, a couple notes, since I've been playing around with some of this stuff. If you need somewhere to host data, i can provide that on the virtual private server that's running Emonatics right now.
If you need to update your input form, it can be done relatively seamlessly, as I have done it a couple times now with the Emotiva Reference Database submission form at Emonatics. You can copy the entire form + data, update the form, and get it to append to the previous spreadsheet (though it's buggy and sometimes takes a couple tries to iron it out).
If we have someone that's interested in and capable of writing database queries for a web form, we could make a very robust system. I have never gone that deep, personally, as to provision an entirely new DB, populate, and query (from the web), but I do understand and am generally familiar with the process. I just don't feel like doing all the work at this time. i can provide some assistance/insight to a capable individual, as well as a MySQL instance and hosting platform on which to do it. We could, optionally, integrate the whole thing at Emonatics, but in now way would I make that a requirement of the system, we could split it all out, as well.

I could do that, it's part of my profession but I strongly recommend to use one of the tools I mentioned above. They are easy to install and have all the features needed (and some more you don't think about). Reinventing the wheel doesn't help in the situation we're in. Best, Markus

Best, Markus Hi everyone, When we first started talking about having a centralized tool I did some research on bug tracking tools and took a poll to see what the interest level would be. Here is the link to that original thread. emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preamps&action=display&thread=9446Here is a link and review to the most popular opensource bug tracker products. www.webresourcesdepot.com/9-free-and-open-source-bug-tracking-softwares/One of the things I did was to see if any of these products had a forum and if they used their own product in that forum to get feedback or report issues. Oddly enough none of them did and I think that ease of use for a non-technical end-user on a forum play alot in that outcome. I also spoke with Lonnie and where they use Bugzilla internally he did not want to expose that to the forum and well I agree with him. I chose the Google application as it was free and pretty easy to deploy so I just linked a couple of icons to the form and main spreadsheet. While I like the ease of use it would be nice if you could see reports and if there was a end-user logging form (which we have) and a technical response form per logged item (which we don't) that would make it easier to work with. Anyway, I will not be offended if you all want to write a better application and host on the emonatics site. I do not have too much time these days with my work and travel but am very supportive to the ideas of improvement. If we keep it simple on the google app and we want to add some new columns that does not take any time at all to complete but I thought we should canvas the community and see what we think. All good in my view and lots of talent on this forum which does not surprise me one iota.

One of the things I did was to see if any of these products had a forum and if they used their own product in that forum to get feedback or report issues. A forum is not a bug tracking tool and there's no need to add forum functionality to a bug tracker. People need to log bugs and give as much information as possible to reproduce these bugs. Endless rant about issues is counterproductive from a developer point of view. I also spoke with Lonnie and where they use Bugzilla internally he did not want to expose that to the forum and well I agree with him. This is a new situation, he might change his mind. Bugzilla can be configured for different usergroups or projects. Or simply install a second system. If we keep it simple on the google app and we want to add some new columns that does not take any time at all to complete but I thought we should canvas the community and see what we think. Don't get me wrong sticknstones, I really appreciate your effort (good way to communicate problems to Emotiva and reality check) but we're in the middle of an unintentional beta test. Best, Markus
