Seeing that the current firmware is still creating problems, the question is: will Emotiva extend the trial period. Since the UMC-1 is not fully functional as everyone would agree, I believe we should get more time to try out the UMC-1.
Before I commit to keeping the UMC, I as many others would like to see it fully operational.

I did read Dan's statement and he stated that we'll know more Monday on the outcome of the UMC-1. From that I believe there are only two courses of action: a new firmware or completely scrap the UMC-1 unless there is a very quick fix which i sort of doubt.

The UMC-1 doesn't need to be scrapped........its not a hardware issue, its FW, and to be quite honest, the thing works pretty darn straight now. At least it does for me. All the major bugs that I had issues with have been worked out.

I agree why would they scrap it that's just crazy most of the bugs are worked out how did you get to the conclusion they would scrap it I don't think so the hardware as stated is solid.

Yep, its firmware.......looking over the processor board I really think its ludicrous some of the posts I see with people going all out to complain or put the product down. Again for a processor with the features it has from a hardware point of view it cant be beat for a modest $700. Hell, Dan even said that we would be able to send our units in to upgrade the HDMI switcher to 1.4 spec!
How can you beat that?
Again for $700, your getting a 5-1 HDMI 1.3/1.4 switcher, True HD and DTS MA, 7.1 decoding, a decent DAC section, the DCDi upscaling is better than I expected, the analog section is clean and quiet, independant channel 11 band EQ with +/- 10db gain cuts, 11 band sub EQ, 12/24 db highly adjustable xover, RCA/balanced sub out...............I mean seriously............yep it was a bit of a PIA waiting on the latest FW, but most issues were fixed......Im sure the last few bugs will be as well too on the minor post processing issues. No buyer remorse here. I personally feel that all the people who are complaining just don't know what a deal this thing is regardless of the few extra bugs that need to be worked out............hey at least they CAN BE WORKED OUT.

I agree why would they scrap it that's just crazy most of the bugs are worked out how did you get to the conclusion they would scrap it I don't think so the hardware as stated is solid. I think my post was misunderstood. I agree that Emotiva would not scrap the UMC but my post was only meant as response to markus' post. The ambiguity of Dan's post leaves room for interpretation: the UMC being scrapped or a new firmware update. What i meant by my post is that the UMC will not be scrapped and thus a new firmware update is needed, thus we should receive an extended trial period. Dan had posted that the trial period would only extend 30 days after the newest firmware release. Since the newest firmware release did not fix all of the essential functions of the UMC for some people(ntrain not included) we should rightly receive a longer trial period. however a quick fix seems unlikely and thus a firmware update is needed and thus a longer trial period. I did not start this thread to smash the UMC, but to gain popular support for an extension of the trial period if need be due to the obvious failures in the FW since the trial period as stated before WILL expire in 30 days from April 13th.Sorry for any confusion

I'm pretty sure if you talk to Emotiva directly they will be more than reasonable about your trial period. I'm not sure a petition or poll is really necessary.
Based on past experience and the very frank posts today from Dan and Lonnie, I don't think we UMC-1 owners have too much to worry about going forward. The bugs will get fixed and most of us will be very happy campers.
Me, I am now off to watch a cool blu-ray movie and then catch SNL later tonight all in glorious Hi-Def Technicolor courtesy of the UMC-1 and my XPA-5! Have a great evening everybody.

........its not a hardware issue, its FW I would have to disagree with your assessment. At this point some of the issues with the UMC-1 are hardware issues. In fact Lonnie has posted there are some inherent quirks of the Cirrus chips that cannot be undone. So I think the bottom line will be that Emotiva may improve upon the UMC even further with more FW updates...The UMC will not work for all people depending on their setups. This isn't a slam on Emotiva. In fact, after returning my UMC in March due to subwoofer EQ's not working and other issues I am considering giving the UMC another shot in to my system.
