Hi,
Does the Wadia 170i keep the iPod charged? I am looking at one on Amazon. I also don't know if it will connect to our 240v power.
Cheers, Dave.

Hi, It does keep it charged, although I'm nor sure about the 240 volt usage. Go over to wadia.com, and post the question in their forum. Be prepared as it may take a few days to receive a response. Ira

Just ordered a Wadia on eBay. Should be here just before my UMC-1.

What is the biggest difference between the wadia and other ipod dock? Wadia pulls the digital stream directly and uses its own DAC or provides a pure digital transport to the DAC of your choice. Some iPods have decent DACs (5th Gen uses a good Wolfsen), so YMMV.

What is the biggest difference between the wadia and other ipod dock? As already mentioned the Wadia can access the digital stream where almost all other iPod dock can only access the analog signal after the ipod's internal DAC. As it is a digital stream the DAC in my UMC-1 does the conversion to analog. Of course this a much more capable DAC which results in better SQ. When Emo release their DAC I will be connecting the Wadia for even better SQ. Dave.

If all i wanted is to use the ipod as a source of music in analog (USP1) then an ipod dock would preferable, am i right?

If all i wanted is to use the ipod as a source of music in analog (USP1) then an ipod dock would preferable, am i right? if you are happy with the SQ then yes. If your priority is superior SQ and youvare prepared to spend a considerable amount of money to achieve this, then the Wadia would be for you. If you want the cheapest iPod to UMC-1 solution then just get a 3.5mm plug to RCA adapter cable for only a few dollars. Edit: I just noticed you have the USP-1. Either of the two analog solutions I suggested are what you require. Dave.
