I bought a UMC-1 and wound up returning it, this was back at the end of February. If you are interested you can search my posts and look at my issues but that isn't the point of this post.
Today, after reading Dan and Lonnie's posts, I am about 98% convinced I will buy another UMC-1 in the near future. Why?
1. The honesty and communication from the Emo team; Dan, Cathy and Lonnie in particular. Not done perfectly but it is rare that three executives of a company will communicate to their customers as directly as they have.
2. Capability, the unit has the right mix of features and functions for me, especially now that it can be upgraded to HDMI 1.4
3. The informal Emo community has proven to be a team of helpful and knowledgeable users of Emo equipment and consumer electronics in general
As an electrical engineer who used to design and program integrated circuits (nothing as complex as a UMC-1 BTW) and a lean six sigma practitioner I am aware of how complex and challenging product design and introduction is for a small team. Did they do everything correctly in the product go to market stage? No, of course not, but they have really made huge strides in the cycle and they have earned by compliments and future purchase. I will wait to see how the latest code works but all in all I believe they are close and on the right track.
Congrats to the Emo team and their loyal supporters
