I am looking to replace my dated Sony STR-DA3100ES to get some of the new technology. I will only be using 5.1 or possibly 5.2 if I go with dual subs. I want to get HDMI connectivity, need dual simultaneous video out. I am looking primarily at the Pioneer Elite SC-27 right now. I have 4 ohm speakers, but they are fairly friendly 4 ohm speakers. www.salksound.com/gallery/SongTower/imp.bmpOne thing I really like about it is that it has Class D ICE amps and it will be more efficient power-wise. Others that I have been considering: Pioneer Elite VSX-23 Receiver Yamaha RX-Z7 (More than I want to spend though) Marantz 6004 (concerned about all the problems I have read about them) Integra Processors or receivers Onkyo 5007 Receiver (Many unhappy users due to relay clicking on audio changes, even after a f/w update) If I get a receiver that I am really happy with, I may be selling 2 of my RPA amps and possibly my UPA-2 to downsize my system. If anyone has any insight or suggestions, it would be appreciated. I have been jumping around and can't make a decision. :-( I am not sure if Pioneer is going to have a new Elite line for 2010. I was thinking of waiting for them to come out and wait for the 2009 models to drop. I really don't need 1.4 or 3D at the moment. Ideally, the maximum price I will spend will be $1,250. Doug

Thank you for your vote LOTR. I am leaning that way, but would like to see if someone comes up with a suggestion that I hadn't thought of. I like almost everything about the receiver. My one nitpick is that it does not have OSD volume, etc... because they want to leave the video stream untouched, unless you have a TV with Kuro link. I can surely do without it though. I guess we can assume that Pioneer is not coming out with a new Elite line for 2010 since they did not announce or show them at the CES and audio shows? I'd hate to buy one and have them drop $300 due to a new line-up. :-) Doug

I have been seriously looking at a SC-25 myself. Like you, I am waiting to see if the new models are announced soon so i can scoop one up discounted. I also don't care about 1.4 or 3D, and in fact I can see advantages for older and less restrictive HDMI. One way or another, I'll pull the trigger in a month or so.

PS. Without going down a rat hole, the UMC-1 I had on pre-order is no longer an option for me. Still love my UPA-1s though.

Simultaneous HDMI out - check Lower power ICEPower amplification - check DSD support - Check The great part is that I will be able to sell two of my three RPA amps if I like it well enough and that will pay for the receiver. I will keep one though since they are so kick butt. Doug

I was on the waiting list for the UMC-1. I was planning on pairing it with a UPA-5 when my name came up. In the meantime, I ordered a Pioneer Elite SC-25 last month.
Those ICE amps are the real deal! I am so pleased with the sound quality and functionality of the SC-25 that I've decided to forget about the Emotiva separates and keep my Pioneer.

I don't think you will be disappointed on your choice. I've had a few Elite receivers (VSX-53TX, SC-05, SC-27) and they really are great. I also love what MCACC does in the room, but right now I'm also enjoying the UMC-1. Those ICE amps kick-a$$, I couldn't decide which I liked better between, LPA-1 and internal in the SC-05.

So far I am really enjoying the SC-27 although I have not ran MCACC or made any adjustments whatsoever. I am only using 2 channels now since I have not figured out a good spot to route the speaker wire to the right rear since the kitchen is open from floor to ceiling.
I am going to be selling 2 RPA-1s after I can find the boxes and manuals, etc...

Where can you get a legit (warranty) sc-27 for <$1300. Sure I can get one off the "bay" from a store front in "crooklyn", but I sure hope it never needs anything.

I believe that you can now get one of those (legit with full warranty for even less than that)! * But let me get back to you on that with full confirmation and proof of certification.

So far, one at $1,298 ...But that ain't good enough, so I'm still searching; I'll go check with my friends at AVS, they all have Pioneer Elite receivers there with Kuro plasmas. ...And they're real suckers for the lowest price available in the entire planet!

I got mine at a Magnolia for CONSIDERABLY less than 1300, full warranty. That was a few months ago, however.

See, I knew it! ...And however, tomorrow they'll be even cheaper, because Pioneer Elite is coming with their newer line of receivers with HDMI 1.4 * My very well calculated & educated guess: you'll be able to get the SC-27 for less than $999. ;D

I just don't want to give these black/grey market ops any of my hard earned $$$.

They sometimes have either demo, or returned, items on sale. Mine was a returned item, not a scratch anywhere, and all the accessories included. I actually saw the guy returning it and stalked the sales associate - he had bought it the week before. With a little haggling It came home with me for under (significantly under) 1K You just have to be diligent and find those deals. A few months prior to that I picked up a 21TX for like 399, the week it came out. Deals can be found. Now I ended up returning the 21 because it just wasn't in the same class as the SC-05 I had at the time.
