Just got done watching Lonnies video on updating the UMC1. Great video but half of what he does is not even in the PDF directions we were given last week. Is this why all the problems?? The thing that stuck out the most is when he uploaded the file to the UMC and the standby light went immediately to blue. In my case sometimes it would take 2 or 3 times and sometimes it would just say "No Response". Im going to try one more time while following his video to see if I can get it to work. I have absolutely no audio since the FW update but I was also one of the few that reverted back to V5 before Vince posted last Weds. not to. This was after I spoke with him and Nick at EMO last tuesday to see what they thought about reverting. At that time they didnt see an issue. Reverted back to V5 with no issues except for the ones that were there before. After talking to Vince again about the whole xp/safe mode thing I updated back to FW6 and since I HAVE NO AUDIO!!!!! Video and everything else works but no audio. Tried also on a new windows 7 laptop. Plus Vince told me the most crucial thing was the UMC power cycles at the end of the third file. I never got these nor did I see that happen in Lonnies video. Once again I am doing my best to avoid sending the unit back for service. Could the revert back and forth screwed something up?? I have gotten to many different answers from EMO and sent an email to Lonnie this morning that I am still waiting on an answer as to what I should do. Has anyone else reverted back and then update to V6 with the same issues?? I am more confused now after watching Lonnies video. I followed the PDF directions to a T and then he makes a video that does things completely different in some steps....... I had similar results to yours but in light of Dan's latest post about the current status of the v6 FW, I will certainly wait until the new FW gets released. There is no need for me to try and reinstall v6 at this point. The audio issues with my directv dvr as I am changing channels etc are the main issue for me but I can manage this until the new FW gets released.

PLII (known Issue) No bass or treble controls Rare audio drop outs from 2 channel to 5.1 wierd emoQ results I did the step by step that Lonnie posted. I also were having the same issues that you state. I was wondering if you used EmoQ. After I did the reboot. I tried breaking the audio dropout issue, but couldn't replicate it, but after I ran EmoQ, I immediately noticed it. Of course, this could just be coincidence but it's worth looking into. I might do another reload this evening without touching the EmoQ/EQ section and see what happens....

I can say this. If they don't do something about the constant audio dropouts and soon, they are going to be paying out a boatload for shipping costs. I certainly will not be keeping this unit in the state as it's in for more than a few weeks without a viable resolution. 'Ready for Prime time' is a statement that got my $719.00, but it's not a statement that can keep it.....
I recall somebody posting earlier(who knows...some many posts) about us being beta testers. I think it's absolutely ridiculous and if they wanted users to be in beta, they should do it like other companies with scheduled beta testers and scheduled times for open windows....I suppose Emo's way keeps costs down because they don't have to pay for the staffing, but how much extra $$$ are they waisting on the return shipping fees and testing the units when they get them to troubleshoot the reason for the RMA and then find a resolution for said issue....

I don't think EmoQ has anything to do with it. I haven't touched EmoQ since the original FW, and I have lots of dropouts.

My experiment on the drop outs: I found that I had them often when changing channels with DD and using a coaxial cable for sound. When I reverted back to HDMI for both A &V, the drop out rarely occur. It can still lock up with HDMI audio, but much less frequently than coaxial. Anyone else have similar experiences? Like I said, that was not as confounding as the sudden boost in volume that happened to me twice so far. THAT was scary!

I was hoping that the audio dropouts were only due to the HDMI cable(the only thing I've used and I get them frequently)...though 'frequently' is a rather subject term. Sometime I get it when I change the channel, or just when a commercial comes on. It seems when the audio stream changes. I was going to try to swap out the HDMI cable for a digital coax or optical cable, but from what you're saying, I might even be worse off....

I've been bitching about the episodic volume blasts, too. I haven't had one in a couple of days <knock wood>. The certainly seem severe enough to do some damage, in my experience. I am currently connected via optical/component due to a wonky HDMI connector (I think) in my cable box. I think I should try HDMI again to see if I can reduce the dropouts now that I got some HDMI strain relievers. Her's hoping that doesn't reintroduce the volume blast.

I honestly hate being portrayed as a liar. I told my wife last week that I would fix the issues with it the new firmware and now she screaming, 'You spent how much on this thing and it's way worse than what you had before...you should hook up your old thing so I can at least watch TV'....She hasn't got to the whole, 'Send that piece of crap back' yet, but I don't think it's going to be many more days before I start hearing that....

That's nothing! My mom-n-law looked at me, shook her head disapprovingly and muttered, "loser". Now I'll never be "good enough". Why do the audio gods mock me thus?

I am hooked up via HDMI and get frequent center channel dropouts with Dolby Digital from my AT&T U-Verse DVR. Frequent means that it happens almost every time I fast forward or rewind. Stereo audio seems to be just fine.

I too still get intermittent blasts via an SD Motorola/Comcast/Coax fed input in PLIIx and Neo6. The pattern definitely involves broadcast toggles between 2.0/5.1. The actual indicated volume doesn't change but the "perceived" volume represents about a +20 relative to the UMC's volume increments. If I go "direct" - no "blasts" but can still lose audio sync/connectivity when changing channels and have to toggle either mode or input to revive...

Is it just me, or does Lonnie kinda have that Geogre Clooney head-bob thing going on when he talks? ;D That's where he learned it!
