I've been reading the various posts for the last few days and I'm a bit confused. I have not upgraded to the new firmware yet, and I can't tell if folks think that it is better or worse than staying with the current version (v5).
I do have the occasional audio drops when I am using my DVR, but thus far it is just an occasional annoyance. I also experience the 'slow' lock-in for HDMI audio. Other than that I don't seem to have too many of the problems that folks complain about, though I doubt I am pushing it quite as hard as some of you.
My guess is that I should just wait until the updated release comes out in the next month or so. Are there any folks out there that think that v6 is worth the upgrade over v5 or is the 'consensus' that you should wait for v6.1?

In the same boat. Guidance please.
Present thinking is that I see what V5 does for me, as it only just showed up at my desk... if it really is a beast, I'll see what V6 does...

I can't speak to consensus but I am holding off on the new FW as my UMC does everything I need right now.I'll be upgrading FW when the all clear is sounded.

I called into support today. Another revision to come. This was further confirmed by Dan's update. I will hold off for a while. The issues I am having with V5 are minor. I really wanted to check out EmoQ but can wait.

Interesting thread with interesting responses. I am also in the same boat. I have been purposely holding off on the upgrade to see how it went. Glad I have waited up to this point and am leaning on sticking with v5 as well.

JD

Hopefully the next firmware is out before mine is shipped. I wonder if they will hold the shipping again until the "newest" firmware is tested then released?

I have zero operational issues with mine running v5 installed before it was originally shipped from the home office, so I will hold off on any upgrades. I'd like to try out some of the improved features but not at the risk of dealing with possible side effects. I might even wait and see if they streamline the firmware update process in the near future before I spend the time with the manual install.

I just sent an email off to Sarah asking if my unit will be delayed in shipping due to the problems with the new firmware. I'm also in Canada so that may play a role in their decision. I'll let everyone know what she says when I get a reply.

I guess it depends on how you use the UMC-1 as to the advantages of v6 over v5.
My experience is that v6 is much better from a HDMI video perspective. It seems to lock onto a HDMI signal better and doesn't drop out to 480 like the v5 code did. Video between the UMC-1, Directv DVR, Oppo BDP-83, XBox 360 and my Panasonic PT-AE4000U is rock solid.
Audio took a step backward especially with regards to the DD5.1 to DD2.0 switching issue. This happens most often with the sat reciever although it can happen on Xbox or Blueray as well. While this is annoying I've always been able to pause or change inputs to restore proper audio.
Other then the audio mode problems the v6 software seems more stable. I've not had issues like lockup during shutdown since I upgraded. I have yet to try Emo-Q but am thinking of giving it a try next weekend.
Take care.. Scott

I'd really appreciate clarification on the really bad reported problem on V6 - audio volume goes to max at some point. I'd like to replace my DMC-1 with the UMC-1 I have still sitting in the box, but I'm afraid of this issue. So, is there a way to avoid this issue until it is resolved? Is it some mode I should avoid or is it unavoidable? Tivo HD, Oppo BD-83, Mac Mini are the devices I plan to hook into the UMC-1. Thanks much for any insight!

Avoid PLIIx and Neo:6 and you should be OK.

Avoid PLIIx and Neo:6 and you should be OK. ...now they tell me! Had a very disconcerting experience while watching a movie on Vudu where 20 minutes into the movie the volume suddenly and without warning went through the roof! I thought my speakers would suffer irreparable damage. Finished the movie with the volume lowered considerably and in stereo. And I thought audio "drop outs" were bad....

Thanks ratmice. I'm going away for a few days tomorrow so maybe I'll just wait until I get back and can keep an eye on things.

Just remember to go into the advanced playback menu and change the audio codec associations.
