Is anyone out there using the UMC solely hooked up to a Bluray player? This is all I will be doing with it (I do have the ERC/USP combo too) but no PVR/TIVO type devices. Just Bluray over HDMI. Any of the current bugs effecting this? I am doing just that. Only a Bluray player attached for movies. I do not have any of the issues like audio drops etc. I do listen to CDs and SACDs on my Bluray player (Oppo 83) and I love it. ;D BTW I have upgraded mine to v6.

I'm afraid. I'm very afraid. But, I don't want to break the bank and go with something else that is more expensive. So, I take a big breath and wait until my pre-order is called. I am very, very afraid of the audio drop-out issues. Terrified really.

I just received my UMC-1 a few days ago and have already sent it back in to be repaired--it won't pass any video signal via HDMI to my Epson 1080UB proj. Like you also, the UMC will hopefully be replacing a B&K Ref, 30 preamp. I work as a Home Theater specialist for the nation's largest independant electronics retailer and tried everything to get the UMC 's hdmi video output to work. I hope it was just a bad unit or they may have some not so good HDCP issues. let you know how things turn out!!! I know you said you tried everything (and it's a bit late now) but did you try turning off Deep-Color on the UMC-1? That was the only thing that kept my Sanyo projector and UMC-1 from playing nice together.. once I turned it off, everything was fine. FYI: I haven't testing this with firmware V6 yet. ........................................................................................................ As it turns out this problem is due to a crap HDMI cable.

I just received my UMC-1 last week and updated it with the v6 firmware. I have a PS3 Fat and a comcast cable box connected via HDMI 1.3a to the UMC-1 and one HDMI1.3a from the UMC-1 to my Epson 1080UB. The Deep color is set to ON. IMHO the UMC-1 doesn't "just work", it works great ;D. Set to Auto, it enhances the PQ of both HDTV and SDTV cable channels. It passes through blu-rays and makes the native 480p Netflix streaming TV shows watchable on my 108"screen.

I will be going ahead with my order when my turn comes around. I just shipped my old receiver today to the new owner. Just watching TV now until I get the UMC-1. I'm not too concerned about the UMC-1 problems as I believe Emo will get it sorted eventually.

Hi guys, Like many of you I believe I have been following the UMC-1 for over two years. My number has been pulled on the pre-order list and I WAS ready to pull the trigger on a preloaded UMC-1 with v6 firmware. The worst part about this is that my gut is telling me no. I have the money, and the approval from the wife.....I am just nervous about the headaches. Audio Dropouts, Potentially blown speakers, incorrect reporting of settings....this sounds like a big price to pay. I am currently using a B&K receiver / XPA-5 with a Panasonic Bluray player. I have access to Tru-HD and DTS Master Audio via Analog inputs and use the receiver for my X-Box and Direct TV. The major benefit for me swapping my B&K to the Emotiva is sound quality. Functionally, I don't believe the UMC-1 offers much benefit beyond what I already own. Are there any UMC-1 owners out there that can help push me over the fence either way? If automatic room correction software is important to you do not get the UMC.....

If music is of no import to you do not buy the UMC.There are piles of cheap avrs that do HT just fine.

I am in a similar boat as you. I have the MMC-1 which is working great in my setup and using analog for DTS-MA. I know the UMC-1 has some new features, but overall I don't think it is worth the upgrade, especially with all the issues. The way I look at it is, everything in my system is working properly and I am happy with it so there is no reason to spend the money and upgrade. Agreed. Bottom line, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Weigle2

I'm on the preorder list for an XMC-1, but after the UMC-1 issues, I've decided there's no way I'm going to turn into an XMC-1 beta tester and firmware fixer. I'll wait it out...it isn't like my 40% off is only good for processors the day they're released....I just think it's going to take a brave soul with some time on their hands to be 1st in line with the next new Emotiva processor...

Saginawjuggalo & ronin1000,
Thanks guys!! I did try deep color both on and off as well as auto video and pass through modes with no luck. I'm pretty sure it was just a bad unit- it also did not go into standby mode properly at times and did not want to save menu choices very well. Hopefully I'll get a brand new unit back otherwise I think I'll just take a refund and go with an Integra instead.

I use the UMC-1 as a 2-channel digital pre/pro. The XDA-1 might fit the bill at some point, as well. But, I do watch video content in 2-channel from media servers that don't have "high end" video processing, so a Pre/Pro with a good video processor is nice, too. So, the UMC-1 fits the bill quite nicely.

I didn't know anyone had the high-res stuff working with zero dropouts. You have DTS-HD/True-HD working with your Blu-rays?

I'm sticking with the MMC. Too many issues for now. I was waiting for XMC, but at this point, if another product comes along that's reasonably priced and works, I won't wait. I refuse to just "try it and return it if it doesn't work". It's too much time and effort to change out a unit twice to go back, then still wish I had something different.
Honestly, at this point, I think they've bitten off too much. Big Dan's promises of "extensive testing" have proven to be inadequate several times now. In fact, the MMC doesn't work 100% like it should. I am not able to play a digital source through zone 2, even after trying what was suggested by tech support. The only way it works consistently is using analog inputs. And, there are software glitches related to using zone 2.

(Get it?!) ;D I think there are a lot of people here that would love to see some competition in this space. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. Heck, as consumers, I think that's almost part of the fun of it. It's like the thrill of your team winning the close game. Even if they lose, it's sometimes a lot more fun that watching a blow-out. Well, for me, at least.

I'd wait. My number came up on the UMC-1 and I declined. I'd gone with the Integra DHC 40.1 while waiting, and since everything was fine I didn't want to take any chances until the UMC-1 was fixed. I also liked the Integra's networking capabilities even though I've since gone with a different solution for computer music. Turns out the best part is the ethernet firmware updates. (Who'd of thought?) Still...........looking forward to the XMC-1.

I do not think the use of the word "AFRAID" is appropriate. As I said, I for one, passed on the UMC-1 when my number came up. This was due to two factors. 1) when my number came up, I was out of the country and had very spotty internet access, and 2) I did not think they would allow me to pass on it for a later date. I guess I should have asked. Knowing that now, I should have gone that route. So am I afraid to buy one? Absolutely not. I just do not think, my wife and kids would appreciate replacing a stable component with one, which they may not be able to get to get to work 100 percent of the time. I know Emotiva would take it back, if I didn't want it during the trial period (which keeps getting extended as new firmware gets tested), so there really isn't a lose situation. They even pay for shipping back and forth if you want them to upgrade the unit for you.
Just my $0.02 worth.
