[quote author=monkumonku board=preamps thread=11091 post=171318 time=1271973916 Your concerns are certainly valid and reasonable. What I would suggest is to buy the UMC-1 since assuming the bugs get ironed out nothing anywhere near that price point can come close. Plus you have 30 days to decide. BUT, I think it would be nice if Dan or Lonnie can make a post to clarify the issue about whether the 30 day trial starts now or when the firmware finally gets fixed to the point where they feel it is reasonable. Because if it is the latter, then you have nothing to worry about. You will just be out the freight if you decide to return it, which is about $20 or so. [/quote]
Unless you are out of CONUS, then there is a significant hit on returning the UMC. For us in Canada it is $156 for shipping, brokerage, taxes, duties etc. You can get the duties refunded, BUT it is darn near impossible to get the rest. And if it is for "warranty" work, we pay the shipping AGAIN both ways (at that price we are paying 1/2 the TOTAL cost for the UMC on the shipping back for warranty). Thank heaven I am not in China or Saipan or Australia.

I am doing just that. Only a Bluray player attached for movies. I do not have any of the issues like audio drops etc. I do listen to CDs and SACDs on my Bluray player (Oppo 83) and I love it. ;D BTW I have upgraded mine to v6. hemster, that's awesome. I didn't know anyone had the high-res stuff working with zero dropouts. You have DTS-HD/True-HD working with your Blu-rays? Bill, I haven't had any problems with my UMC-1 on dropouts with my blu-ray. It's only when I switch inputs to "Cable" when the problems start.

No audio dropouts for me either from my Samsung Blu-Ray. Plenty of dropouts from my TiVo via HDMI. I switched the audio to optical and so far I've been dropout free.
Sticking with V5 firmware for the time being, however.

Sticking with V5 firmware for the time being, however. I've had dropouts in V6 whether the audio was delivered through HDMI, Optical or Coaxial cable. Sticking with V5 is definitely a good move on your part, though I just updated to the beta firmware that Lonnie posted early this afternoon and it has definitely fixed quite a few issues. I believe the UMC-1 is definitely headed in the right direction and all the bugs will be shaken out in short order.
