I just got Avatar bluray and cant get it to switch over to a 5.1 output. I am starting to think I have never heard 5.1 because the display always shows 2 channel on DVD's and blurays.
Am I missing something?

Is this on a UMC-1? What is your player?
Cheers!

Am I missing something? There is a possibility it's the disc itself. Google Avatar Blu-ray problems and watch all the stuff pop up.

Am I missing something? Check the settings of your blu-ray player. it sounds like it is set to output 2 channel downmix. You should change it to output bitstream and then you will get what you want.

I wil try all of theses. I have never used HDMI for audio and never had the issue with digital cables so it may be a simple fix.

It was settings in the DVR that caused that issue and the same ones and more in the DVD that caused the Blue Ray issues.
It sounds Lots Better!

This happens to me a fair amount of time. It seems as though I have some DVD's that default to a 2-channel output format, so I now get in the habit of checking what it is outputing. I likely had this issue going on for years but am finally starting to take note.
