Well, I had an interesting anomaly the past couple of days. I have been in the process of burning some hi-rez FLACs to DVD-A to play on the rig. Long story short, made a whole bunch of matching coasters. Tried many different methods/software to no avail. Or s I thought. After a good dose of frustration I decided throw in some commercial DVD-A and SACDs. No dice. All I got was white noise (at a very soft level) - the same problem I was having with the burned discs. I tried a DVD worked perfectly, and I had watched the avatar BR as well with no problem. Tried shutting off the UMC-1, switched HDMI connectors, rebooted - Nothing. Finally one last thing I tried was unplugging the UMC-1 for like 1/2 an hour. That was the charm. Works now, and as a bonus I have a whole bunch of DVD-As that actually do work
Anyone seen this problem before? where only 1 or 2 codecs don't work, but everything else is fine?
That said, the v6ß firmware is a fantastic improvement over the previous incarnations. Most everything is working great. Thanks.

Hopefully someone will shed some light on this... BUT, this - "Most everything is working great. Thanks. " coming from ratmice is HUGE. Congrats Lonnie (and team) ... you guys are almost there (can see the light at the end of the LONG tunnel).

Just got my UMC-1 Friday, and installed the v6ß firmware.
I haven't finished setting up all my sources, yet. My SACD and DVD-A input is analog from a different source than my Blu-ray (yeah I should go with the Oppo), and I've only connected the Blu-ray player, via HDMI, so far.
That being said, I did go to try out a DVD-A, expecting the fallback to DD. This worked fine while I had the TV on (connected to UMC-1 via HDMI). Once I turned the TV off, I lost the audio for about ten seconds, then it came back on for about ten seconds, then it went away. The audio did not come back on until the TV was turned back on.
Where am I going with all this gibberish? I infer from your switching of HDMI connectors that you connected with HDMI only, and was wondering if having the Samsung A650 off had any effect on what you experienced.

Interesting thought, I never had the Monitor powered down, as I was interested in the OSD. Oh, and I updated the first post a bit.

BUT, this - "Most everything is working great. Thanks. " coming from ratmice is HUGE. I'm not THAT much of a PITA, am I? On second thought, don't answer that. I really just want this thing to be awesome, and it's well on it's way. Where I come from they call it "tough love".

So, as long as we're on the ratmice bandwagon...ratmice, is that odd sound still there when you listen to CD's and have the lipsync set really high?
Just curious...now that I understand the problem better, it would not be a problem for me (as I would never choose those settings) but I am curious if perhaps the beta release changed anything in this regard.
Thx, Mark

Thx, Mark I have not tested it with the beta, but it was definitely present with v6. I will give it a check and report back here. It's pretty easy to check yourself, just add a lipsync delay to an input (> 75 ms) and play a CD over that input in stereo mode.

It's easy if one already has a UMC-1...still on the wait list!
Looking forward to what you find.

Now a little more about the hi-rez issue I was having the weekend. This morning while trying out the above stereo problem noticed that I had switched the HDMI back to where I originally had it, but had not reset the input on the OSD, so I went in and changed it from HDMI 1 to HDMI 5. WHen I then tried to test a CD with lipsync - all I got was a little hiss. I popped in a DVD and same thing. SO this is a very similar issue to what I was having with the hi-rez formats. I reset the UMC-1 and all abck to normanl.
So it seems that either changing inputs physically, or maybe just via the input setup requires a reset now. I will have to do a bit more testing to check it out.
