I have an issue and need some feedback. I have been awaiting a chance to pick up a UMC-1 to replace my ailing old receiver. I already picked up a ton of Emo gear. I very much want to have an all Emo system, it just makes sense to me, but alas, I can't get my hands on a UMC-1 for a couple of weeks, at least, and I need something this week if possible.
I spent more on the rest of the system assuming my AVR would keep kicking long enough to get a UMC-1. My budget is right around the cost of the UMC-1.
What are my options, used or new that are very close to or equal in SQ, can decode the HD formats over HDMI and won't kill my budget.
I know, this is likely impossible and I should just wait but I have several reasons for wanting to get the main system running quickly as well as home renovation projects that limit my budget.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

One of the main reasons why I purchased the UMC-1 is there really are no alternatives with the same capabilities at anywhere near the price, and after living with it for a while I really think there is nothing out there that can compete without adding an extra zero on the UMC-1 price tag. I have been very impressed.

Is your Kenwood AVR connected to your amps now? If so wait the extra couple of weeks. It will be worth it.
The old Sony I am running (sold my Yamaha) doesn't have pre-outs so I can't use any of my Emo gear until my UMC-1 arrives. The sound is very lackluster.

I agree. I advised four friends/family members to get on the pre-order list a long time ago but somehow mine got messed up. I figured it wasn't a big deal but now it is

I have been waiting for the UMC 1 for almost 2 years. I can wait another couple of weeks. Besides, all those months my money has been in my bank account paying me interest...I have another 8 cents to spend on cables or something. Keep waiting another couple of weeks and get the UMC. I am really looking forward to receiving mine.

I've grown so acustom to the UMC-1 it would be hard to find something even close at the price range. Not sure what the emergency is but the UMC was worth the wait.

I have been nursing the Kenwood along for a while now, it has great SQ and I couldn't find anything I liked for under 2k so it always ended up back in the rack. The maps went out last year and it took its last breath this weekend.
I really don't see any options however.

Yeah, I know this is strange. I have family coming in who I haven't seen in years. The bribe to get them here was to see my dedicated theater and host a mini film festival.
i have no problem taking equipment back to a B&M if it doesn't meet my standards but I won't do it for this.

I really don't see any options however. Spend all your spare time in the forum like I do. A couple of weeks will be over before you know it and you will be the happy owner of another great Emo product.

If you have a BB with a Magnolia this is a perfect chance to audition an Onkyo, Denon or Pioneer. You can find models new for around the price of the UMC-1. Take one home try it out and when the UMC-1 comes in you can A/B it. This is a win/win as you can decide which is better and return the one that does not make the cut.
If you are running out on your 30 days call in a marker from one of the four friends you helped setup their UMC-1 and borrow it for a day to make the comparison. Best way to make the decision. Just what I did with both a Pioneer Elite and an Onkyo.

I have tried the high end Integra, Denon and Pioneer models, the only one I would consider and haven't tried was the $7,500 Denon. The other left me pretty flat. It might be an option to call in a marker on the ones I have installed, might be a little awkward but is a reasonable solution

OK, I give. I will just have to find a short term alternative and wait.
Thanks everyone!

I was seriously considering that one but something is off. The guy has listed more than one yet has no feedback.
