With a proposed August release date and a $800.00 price tag, will this new entry into the universal player market provide competition for the Oppo BDP-83SE? Clearly, we can't be sure about the level of analog quality because the unit is still in the womb. However, with DLNA streaming, YouTube and Netflix access, next generation 3D and profile 5.0 compatibilty; We may have to knock Oppo off the budget player champ map. What do you guys thinks?
Oh, and on the Denon Facebook...they are looking for Beta testers!

Interesting. Do you have a link for it? Estimated release date? What does "3D Ready" mean exactly -- 2 HDMI outs? I hadn't heard about BD-Live "profile" #'s. I guess I never cared that much about BD-Live and usually turned it off. "Protein coating"? Is this a new biologic based BR player? Definitely a new price range and market for Denon. Mike *EDIT* Here are some links... Links ZDNET CNET Blu-ray.com SlashGear

Definitely a new price range and market for Denon. How so? Denon has had universal players for as long as I can remember, even in this price range.

Definitely a new price range and market for Denon. How so? Denon has had universal players for as long as I can remember, even in this price range. I don't know the whole lineup, but from the SlashGear article... (bold added by me) "The new models, with expected SRP and availability in parenthesis, include the DBP-2011UDCI (SRP: $799, Aug.) and the DBP-1611UD (SRP: $399, June) that will join Denon’s DBP-4010UDCI ( SRP: $1,999) and critically acclaimed DVD-A1UDCI ( SRP: $4,499) Universal Blu-ray Disc Players in the company’s line of Blu-ray components, which also includes the S-5BD BD/Receiver (SRP: $1,799), a single-component that combines a 5.1-channel surround sound receiver with an advanced Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player." I thought the Denon BR players were more expensive than $800. Maybe there are/were some sub $1K players that I didn't know about. Mike

I have not bought my first BD player yet and this looks like a worthy contender. I am waiting on the XMC first to see how the streaming features work then nail down the BD player.

"Trust me when I say this, this player will be better than most may give us credit for, and for those don't know me, I'm the Director of Product Development for Denon USA. We will even be announcing a beta tester program for this model, something we have never done in the past. Follow our bog at usablog.Denon.com, or look for DenonUSA on Facebook. I imagine a few of you would like to be apart of the beta testing...heads up though only a limited number of folks will be invited into this program..."

Like sticknstones, I have not bought a BD player yet. I have read countless reviews, both professional and consumer, and to me the biggest drawback to non-Oppo players is load times. So for me, a faster load time is an important criteria in evaluating a BD play. The next thing that is important to me is the players ability to play DVDs. I am looking for something up to the same level of performance as the Oppo BD-83.

You will have to look very far to get that. Next year, if 3D is worth a damn, you can upgrade to the BDP-83D, and put the 83 in the bedroom.

Their entry level BD players have been in the $500 range and most recently $399 for the 1610.

So do these new Denon players have two HDMI outputs (3D for legacy receivers)? About their Audio Dacs (Burr-Brown or Cirrus)? Upgraded laser lens assemblies?

(See reference below) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We are looking into the possibility of supporting 3D Blu-ray with a new player, but at this time we do not know when this may occur.

I call it wishful thinking. Oppo will make a 3D player, I have no doubt, I just used the BDP-83D for illustrative purposes.

Do you think you would have to pay the full $800 to beta test the DBP-2011UDCI?

I'd love to see and hear this...I really like my Denon DVD player in sound and video. A step up to a Denon BluRay would be fun to try...I just might wander over to that beta test signup...

That's right, I just forgot about those 32/192 Burr-Brown Dacs; probably the PCM-1795A in their higher-end players, same Dacs used in higher end Onkyo/Integra pre/pros & receivers. And that newer ABT2015, we'll have to see how it does compared to the ABT2010. Well, I'd say it's about time Denon is coming up with Universal Blu-ray players that are affordable; Oppo has the entire market for itself so far, and it's been a while too. I'd like to see Onkyo/Integra doing the same too. About Emotiva? ...I would be all over it. In a year or two perhaps, when 3D will start to makes sense (if ever!).
