I have a motorola something from concast (intentional misspelling , I couldn't find the model number on it. I'd previously been using component but now with the UMC I have enough HDMI that I decided to try it. If I plug it into HDMI 3 I got nothing. Seeing mentioned something about cable boxes and HDMI 1 I tried moving to HDMI 1 and hey I got picture.... for about 2 seconds and then got a message something like: "The HD Digital output of your device has been compromised, please use component" and then the screen started flashing. Ideas? Its cable box so I bet I wouldn't even be able to tell difference between HDMI and Component so I am happy to stay component - just thought that was strange (I have used the HDMI out on the box before directly with my projector and with an iscan VP50 without issue). ;D good job UMC compromising that cable box - what kinda weird offspring is that going to produce?

if you use component from the cable box to the UMC, can you still use HDMI to the TV or are you tied to component all the way?

if you use component from the cable box to the UMC, can you still use HDMI to the TV or are you tied to component all the way? Yep, works like a charm (UMC takes the component and converts to digital and outputs to the projector). In fact I set up my OPPO with both component AND HDMI. I set the input to be component when I want to use the analog 7.1 so that I don't have to deal with the pesky HDMI stuff when listening to dvd audio or sacd discs (they don't have much for video other than menus etc so most of the time I have the projector off). The flexibility of the UMC is one of its greatest features. As far as the cable box LSeminole and Big Dan told me that there are known bugs with my old cable box and I need to demand that Concast give me one of the newer models.
