That's a feature - lets you know when she gets back so you can turn off and get back to your "chores". And people say Emotiva doesn't care....... R

So, with my CONcast cable bill going up again (Oooow Xfinity! Wow, amazing, etc.) I am getting a HD antenna and scrapping the "box". I'll save over $130/month and get free HD over the airwaves. Only real downside is my video does not get routed into the UMC-1, but the audio (optical) does from my Sammy. So...the optical works, except that it is slower to get the audio lock than HDMI. HDMI was lickety-split with the latest beta. Why would the optical be slower to lock?

You could look into some STB like are shown here, tv.about.com/od/accesspries/tp/topATSCreceiver.htmI don't know how old that article is, there maybe better ones out.

Which would you prefer? that they work on the update or on the code. They have limited resources. Personally, I would prefer they work on the code rather than on the update. I believe that they have to work on both together. Without a firm list of fixes how will you know what was supposed to work but doesn't? People will be complaining that items not yet addressed or fixed still don't work even if they have not been touched. lol Even the smallest of companies and shareware authors include a fix list in their upgrades/updates/fixes/Betas. To leave that out is unthinkable in any industry. We have to detail every change and include it in any of our control software updates. EVERY change PERIOD.

Lonnie, I was sure that you would say that in addition to the things you listed, you would have added that you had "NARFLED THE GARTHOK!" Oh well, maybe that's Beta 3...or maybe I am flashing back to a Conehead movie... That is one of my favorites amongst comedies, but "Maintain Low Tones" mister! ;D

visiter555...see Lonnie's reply #10 in this thread. He has answered what he did for Beta 2. Don't expect any fixes in other areas until he says something different.
And frankly, from his pre-release announcement in the "Definitive Big Dan..." thread, this is consistent. From what I read of many folks' posts, I get the feeling that many just ignore what they publish no matter when/how/where they publish it. So, I'm not really sure how they could post a list and still not face the questions about "gee, did they change this...my 'this' is still not working".
For me, I am EXTREEEEEEMELY happy that they are doing frequent updates, communicating frequently, and that the UMC-1 is getting better all the time (oh am I tempted to add a Beatles line here...)

Mark I was stating that the list of fixes is included in the release (software package), not in some obscure location on some board in some thread, which may or may not be deleted. And quite frankly a professional set of Release Notes is normally included with new version updates and Betas in most industries. I just looked back at some of my Rotel, Classe and Denon f/w updates. All include a bulletin detailing the revision number, date of release, recommended minimum software version required for the update and all the previous technical notes on each revision. This includes Betas and 0.00.01 relases. It states New Features, Bug Fixes (Minor), Feature Changes and Enhancements. Go take a lok at aany of the mfgs and see what Release Notes consist of in the industry. That's the way the professional companies do it. It is the way I was trained to do it and the way I have trained my staff to do it. It is the professionals way to do it.

Can you point me to where Realtek's changelog is for their HD audio drivers, I'd LOVE to know what they change.

Hey Lonnie, If you should happen to take visiter555's advice and start providing more detailed lists of "what changed/etc" w/your FW updates, I don't think that's a bad idea to use the types of approaches he notes. It's just not needed for me. But, if you do that...please do not start to also emulate the customer service of some of those companies. PLEASE don't. I am VERY happy with the support I have had from Emo and desire it to continue. And I, for one, have experience w/Denon's customer service and have found that they cannot answer the question "what color socks are you wearing" without multiple requests, multiple useless responses (that tend to be like "my shirt is blue"...uh, shirt? why did they respond like that...? I asked about socks...), and the inevitable frustration of not getting a straight answer after multiple tries and often >2-3 weeks of trying. So...don't emulate that if you do emulate their reported excellent documentation of their FW changes. As a related aside, regarding my latest inquiries of Denon on tech support, I had very helpful, very accurate, and very timely replies...from users of this forum (but not Denon). So...THANKS members of this forum for all you do to help those of us in search of answers!

I'm not sure of the reason for debates on the question of simply having an up front understanding of what issues have been addressed by which FW updates. I don't have a need to understand the ins and outs of what was done in which manner in order to accomplish the fixes, but it does make a lot of sense for the user of a box that is undergoing incremental FW adjustments to understand what bug or problem has been addressed by what FW release.
The comparison to Realtek or any other ongoing maintenance updates doesn't appear to apply here as those are often ongoing tweaks as opposed to specific fixes for specific and clearly identified performance problems that every purchaser of a UMC-1 who has experienced such problems and who frequents this forum is following.

Thank you Lonnie. The accelerated acquisition of the HDMI signal is very noticeable, and greatly appreciated; it went from annoying my family as we'd change stations with various resolutions, to something nobody notices or comments on anymore. Now I have to figure out how to address the issue of my wife's garage door opener changing the volume, not a big problem, but the OSD for the volume pops up, and the volume changes by a step (.5db). My son and I started laughing when we realized what was going on. That's a feature - lets you know when she gets back so you can turn off and get back to your "chores". LOL or at least let you change from the HD bikinis channel to the news. I don't know if I could make it through a power cycle from the time the garage door opens to when she gets in the house - especially with the projector cool down time.

Okay, so I missed up the drama earlier over updating the firmware. But I just got my UMC today with beta 1 and tried putting on the beta 2 firmware. My WinXP laptop is from work and wont boot into safe mode, so I tried using our Vista laptop.
I downloaded the pdf file and followed it and the Emonatics walkthrough, but I get "device not found" on the computer when I click "Start". So that sounds like a USB problem. Downloading the USB drivers on the Emonatics site did not fix this. Suggestions?

could be a usb cable problem. try a different one. also try a different usb port on your laptop.
