Have anyone ever tried playing a SACD in the ERC1, IF so what kind of results did you get?

I play sacd hybird cd's all the time in my ERC-1 and they sound very good.

DSD mastering, beats CD PCM. * Any player will sound better playing DSD recordings thand straight plane jane PCM CDs. That's what my ears hear and that's what they all say from listening.  |

Odd that this should be mentioned, as the Analog Devices AD1955 DAC in the ERC-1 has a DSD/Bitstream input and could, with a change in the transport and firmware, support SACD.

I saw in another thread that the reason why they didn't implement the SACD function was the cost of licensing to Sony.

Money hungry bas.....! ;D HAHHAHAHHA!!! Agreed! ;D I am sure the cost of the ERC-1 would have jumped considerably. Although, isn't there a way to circumvent licensing issues? Such as...say the player is a "universal" or "multi-audio" player but only advertise the cd/cd-r/mp3/hdcd/etc playing capabilities. Just as computer drives can basically read anything you throw at them but do not have to say they can play any particular format/media type. I have seen a dvd player that can read divx files but no where on the box/in the literature/website/advertising did it mention this feature. I just tried it and it worked! It was an old Philips player...the new ones all have it on the box these days... Just thinking out loud here.  |

I'm sure they could work their way around it, but it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do, legally. You never know what could happen.

...And some have less good products too... Most of them, if not all of them... (Sony among them). ;D I think companies like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, John Mayall, and others similar, have very good products in general, in their entire line! |

At the time I bought my ERC, I also bought the Oppo BDP83. For $100 more, not only does the Oppo play SACDs, but also DVD, DVD-A, and BLU RAY!! I seriously doubt the ERC would have been that much more costly. |

Anyone ever notice how the display says "DVD, DTS, Pro Logic" ect. on the left hand side of it? Is there some way I can unlock all those features by hitting the buttons in a certain pattern?  ;D |
