Got my UMC-1 up and running tonight, no tweaking yet, just CD's. It certainly sounds fine, I'd say it has a very "lively" sonic signature, tight bass but again a bit bright. Maybe it's the ERC-1. Going to experiment with Oppo tomorrow. I also have an older Sony CD changer that I think sounds great. More laid back, I'll try that too...
Dead quiet too, no pop or hisses. Its supposed to have the very latest Lonnie upgrade tweak.
No movies yet, room setup to do first.

What is it like if you run Emo-Q? Does it lose the brightness? I don't find mine bright at all, (UPA-1s up front mind you) versus the Yamaha.

Its has a very airy presentation and if I was pushed - I would say it can be just a tad strident at (super) reference levels. No, the EMO-Q does not roll off the "liveliness" in my room - not a bad thing BTW. For $699, it KILLS anything in its path. I would say my AVP 8000 is a just a "wee" bit better in direct 2 channel, different signatures though, although its close. I must admit my Snells are unforgiving with poor recordings - junk in junk out, but the great recordings are a listener's delight...... BTW, not a big EMO-Q fan....... I'm pretty pleased by and large... Hope your keeping well, All the best, Ec
