It took a minor beating enroute:
Even dinged the inner box:
But as expected with Emotiva's usual, awesome packaging, all was well:
The Grille and manual from the little box-insert in the foam:
Thar she blows!
The little bugger emerges, scratch free:
I can say that, despite some concerns posted about the Ultra's light weight, this is a solid little unit and well built.
I only had about an hour to hook it up and play with it before work, but my preliminary report is that, after moving it back and forth between the right, front corner of the room and next to the right speaker, adjusting the output dial a bit each time, it did just what I wanted it to do; extend the bass of my speakers down to the bottom of 99% of the music I listen to on a regular basis.
The sub blends very well with the speakers, even with the limited time I had for adjustment, and now it sounds like I have big, full range towers. While I thought the T-45's had pretty tight bass, the Ultra-10 tightened it considerably. It's punchier too. And deeper, of course.
Right now the crossover (MMC-1) is set at 80 hz. I'll play with that and more placement and output settings in the morning.
So far, I'm quite happy with the Ultra-10. I haven't tried any movies yet, but that's not why I bought the sub. This is a music component and I'll add another when my budget permits. But I'm certain it will do well enough for my tastes. I'm not a huge action flick guy, though I loved the LOTR movies. Psychological thrillers, dramas, comedies, and my wife's chick-flicks when I'm at work, get the most play. Not a lot of LFE there. But it will definitely sound better than just the PSB's by themselves.
More later, including pics.
Next up, source upgrades and room treatments!
Anybody have a link to some acoustic treatments with wife-friendly pictures on them? I'm thinking DIY foam/Owens Corning with some kind of small tapestry art as covers. WAF sucks, but I gotta finish the living room system before I move on to the workout room. ;D
