I never use "random" on a single CD player. I (still) have a 5 disc CD/DVD changer that sees rare use that I use random on. Otherwise I use streaming audio for mixes.

I suppose there will always be options that are wished for. I'd never even heard of this, but someone in another thread wanted a volume control on the ERC. Anyway, a random play is not my cup of tea, and I'm happy with the feature set.

I used random on certain CDs, now I use random on my Ipod. I know I like the music in my Ipod, but if I don't use random I'll never hear all the songs, it takes a long time to listen to 1,200 songs starting from the beginning every time. ;D It may be too late, but it doesn't seem like it would have been hard to implement in the ERC, but what do I know. And as long as it doesn't affect the sound, I say why not.

I actually never noticed that this feature was missing. Guess I don't need it.

Not on a single cd player. I have this on my automobile cd players and never use it.

I can't really think of a time I wanted random play with a single disc player Since the ERC also plays MP3 cd's, and some of us actually use that functionality on occasion, then random would come in quite handy.

You could burn the MP3's to disc randomly. ;D

Random play is a feature that I always used on my cdp and have certainly missed on the ERC-1. I love random because sometimes I get bored of the order of the songs. Some songs on cds are made to be played in order (Beatles White lp--classical works, etc.) and some don't--greatest hits, my own compilation. So the random feature broke the monotony. Also, there are times that I just want to listen to a few songs by the artist and without random I always heard the first 4 songs and then removed the cd--with random I got 4 different songs (well, sometimes the same 4 in different order. ) Anyway, now I just start the cd on the 4th, 7th, or 10th song (or at the halfway mark on the cd) and then select the repeat cd. I realize that I can't do automatic random play on my turntable and that is why the cd deck with random play was such a welcome feature.

Random is like a condom, don't like to use it. If I want one (random or condom), I go to the internet music streaming files or iPod... * But that's just me and my unorthodox mentality...
