I upgraded to from an LPA-1 recently, and while the LPA kicks total ass, I was only using three channels, so why not grab something with more power?
I cant say I have noticed a whole lot of difference between the two. The XPA does seem to present a broader sound-stage for music listening, and dialog is more "solid" during movies.
What I really like is how loud it gets ;D
Damn, I actually have to be careful with that volume knob now!
Basically, if you are on the fence about going to separates, I can not speak highly enough about going with an LPA, XPA or UPA series amp, bang for the buck they are the hands down winners in the separates category.
Its just something you have to hear to understand. When I first got into the audio hobby, I cannot tell you how many receivers I tried (not to bash em') and came out unhappy in the end. I should have just saved myself the trouble and went separates from the start.
Ah well, thats all I have, hope you all are enjoying your gear as much as I am!
