Yes , we could use more feedback on the musicality of these subs.

I've auditioned the 10 in my home and it was quite musical. Just don't expect it to be an output monster. Bass is tight and well defined. In my room it rolled off -3dB at around 36hz, but still had useable output down to about 27hz. For a 2.1 setup in a small room (with bookshelves) it would be ideal. If you want more extension, output, or want to use it in a large room, go for the 12. Or 2 of them. Or 3 or 4. ;D I'm starting to think that there's no such thing as too many subwoofers. Or too big. Does anybody make a 48" driver?

Interesting - in my room (don't have dimensions, but it's fairly wide, fairly narrow, and with lower ceilings since its a basement... maybe 2000 cubic feet?), and in it's current location, I have the Ultra 10 rolling off at 22Hz or so -3db. My old Paradigm Cinema 90 sub (<$150 sub if sold separately for what it's worth) with a 10" driver rolled off at 36Hz. I also need to get the gain knob turned down to 9am or so rather than 10am where it's at now.

I live in Sun Prairie and never heard of KCS. I'm going to have to look them up.

Ok. After spending a few days with the new Ultra-10 I can say that for small room purposes it's a very musical sub. It blends perfectly with my Axiom M60s. Bass is tight and the sub is "fast" for lack of a better term. Bass drum notes are tight and quick. LFE in movies is excellent as well although with the size of my room I'm right on the verge of needing a 12, but the 10 is so musical I think I'll keep it. One thing I really like about this sub is you don't really hear it during movies. You feel it!!! During the scene in Avatar where the missles hit the tree you hear a loud crack(good crack not bad) from the sub and really feel it.

I have not heard the Emotiva subs, but in general the only difference between a 10" and a 12" driver from the same manufacturer should be that the 12" can reproduce lower frequencies at higher dbSPL. And it's larger. The idea of smaller cones being "faster" or "tighter" is a myth.

I decided to go with two Ultra 12s. Musicality was was what I was after. I figured the two subs would allow me to run them with less volume and get a bit tighter base and less distortion. It would also let me balance the room nodes a bit better.
I have not spent a lot of time positioning them yet, but so far I am very happy..
