One thing I would like to see is an option to buy a sub with a jarrah veneer. I'm sure others would like to be able to choose from a selection of finishes.
What do others think about this?

This was talked about quite some time ago. I'm pretty sure Lonnie said that to keep costs down they had to decide on one color/finish, and black has the most appeal.

What is the material used for the case/housing?
Reason I ask is that I replaced a broken HSU-STF-2 with a Ultra -10 and was breaking down the HSU so the trash guys would take it. Evidently, the case/housing is not made up of wood or even particle board. Rather , it is a dense cardboard/peg board like material. I am pretty unimpressed by it. Don't get me wrong. The case/housing is solid as they come. You can stand on it without the fear of it collapsing. Anyway, I thought I would ask.

I can get MDF with the veneer to match my other speakers. Dave.
