Is this something that can be addressed?
I knew it was an issue before I purchased mine but didn't think much of it until I left a disc on pause for an extended period, and then came back to a machine that would only play, not eject, power down, nothing. I have to manually shut the player off and back on with the back power switch.
It's the only thing that I don't like. Otherwise it's a BMW/Lexus experience all the way. GREAT player. Superlative Hifi sound quality. Love it and have absolutely no regrets with the purchase. She's a keeper.
But can we fix it so I can leave a disc on pause for extended periods?

I had the same problem with one a while back. It ultimately was defective. Emo exchanged it for a new one.

Why would you want to leave a disc on pause for extended periods? And what is an 'extended period"?
I ask seriously, not trying to be a smart-ass or anything. I simply don't understand why you'd not press "stop" if you're walking away for a long time...

Well, lol, I would want to leave it on pause if for example I was listening to a song, had to get up and do something, and wanted to come back to the exact point at which I'd left. It's simply a modern convenience that every silvery disc spinning device I've ever owned has managed just fine. Sorry for the answer, not trying to be a smartass, I was answering seriously So Neekos, it's defective? Yours can be paused long term?

Yes, that particular unit was defective. The replacement had no issues with pausing or freezing.
I sold it a while back. I might get another one..

You know what, thinking it might be a burn in issue or something wierd because it did it on the first day only (had it for a few days now), and I think I had left it on pause for an hour.
Today I tested it, leaving it on pause for 15 mintues and it worked fine, then I went to the store and left it on pause for exactly 40 minutes and it's working fine. Tonight I'm going to give it a stress test and leave it on pause for a longer period. I would never intentionally leave it on pause for more than an hour, but it does happen, everyone has done it at one point with their gear. Should be able to leave on pause indefinitely.
Anyway, I think the issue may have resolved itself. We'll see tonight.
Meanwhile, oh man does it sound great! Holy expletive!

Just wanted to say that I only experienced this once (first day) and I've since tested the unit with several hour plus "on pause" sessions and it works just fine. Meanwhile, boo on you Emotiva for not having ERM 6.2's ready to roll! Well that's what you get for having a popular product that everyone wants to buy. Oh well, I very nearly have my alternative speakers chosen.
Anyway, I'm glad the issue is resolved. But either way it didn't cause me any feelings of concern. A five year warrantee kinda does that for a person.
