replacing my denon 3808

just want to get some imput on replacing my denon 3808 with the new umc-1 and if it is worth it. I have the xpa-5 with ps3 blue ray and paradigm monitor speakers. any input would be awsome thanks

Hey jiggy, I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 3808 with PS3 and 3 x UPA-1s. I really would like to find something to replace my 3808. I would like to just have a pre/pro but haven't found something as stable that I can afford. Looking for something with way better SQ and as good PQ.

The UMC-1 should be a major step up in sound quality versus the Denon 3808 and video performance should be a little better. The quality of your source gear is key to how big a diiference you will see, as (of course) will your speakers. The UMC-1 has exceptional sound quality compared to any pre/pro up to several times its price.

Emotiva is about to release its final Beta FW which is expected to address the few remaining bugs in the UMC-1 software. Go ahead and get one, listen to it for 30 days, and then decided whether to keep it or send it back under Emotiva's 30-day Trial Policy. Even the people experiencing problems with the FW are saying they intend to keep it because the sound quality is so amazing. ;D You have nothing to lose by trying in your own home to find out if it provides what you are looking for.

I might wait until the XMC-1 comes out for the added features. I also really need to get rid of my PS3 first. I think it really does okay for average use but the SQ isn't very good at all.

What is the 3808 not doing for you now that you think the UMC might?

i actually love my 3808 but i have someone interested in buying it for the same price as the umc-1 so that is the only reason I was considering it.
