Hello to all, with the UMC-R Billet Aluminum Remote Control for the UMC-1. For shipping purposes, a non conductive sheet is inserted between the battery contact, and the battery. The box of which the remote is packed in also states the insulator removal being necessary prior to operation of the UMC-R remote control. Please use a good quality #2 Philips screw driver to remove the 6 Philips head screws on the bottom plate to facilitate removal of the insulator sheet from between the battery, and the contact of the battery holder. Note, this is not the silver endcap, but the bottom plate. Please take your time, these screws are rather snug, but easily removable. I use the packing and flip the face down in the foam insert so as to not mar or scratch the controls or face of the remote. Once performed, simply reinstall the bottom plate and its 6 screws. You are ready to enjoy your UMC-R Billet Aluminum Remote Control. emotiva.com/umcr.shtm to learn more about this remote. Thank you all for your support.

I might have missed it, but can you confirm that all that have purchased a UMC-1 (even pre-orders) before June 30th 2010 will be receiving a UMC-R?

As long as you were before June 30th 2010, and purchased a UMC-1, you would be getting the UMC-R remote control.

Vince, Do you know if the remote is a signature required delivery? I didn't even think about it, until my wife was checking the email and asked in that particular "wife" tone, "What did you order from Emotiva?" I was a bit confounded until I realized it was the new remote. I may have to make arrangements with Fedex.

Received my UMC-R yesterday, which was a very nice thing for Emotiva to provide. The screws were tight (probably inserted via CNC I would guess) but I was able to remove them using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver without stripping any of them. Warming the device up with my hands seemed to help. I must say this remote is more a work of art than any other remote I own, and while I will likely never use it (I prefer my Harmony) I intend to display it on the coffee table. I have a friend who's a machinist and I'm certain he will be very impressed by it.

Got mine today and concur on the workmanship. Any clever ideas on what to do with the original plastic one? Or is it to the landfill?
