mgvsev, just for some input on the 1.3a vs 1.4 discussion. My understanding is that yes 1.4 can do 3D at 1080p but 1.3a can also do 3d at 1080i. So if it were me, i would think functionality of a wireless onkyo receiver which can stream pandora is a bigger plus in my book!

Tx-nr708 for $679 or the Marantz sr-7002 for $750? Thanks again for the input Wait a second! ...The Onkyo TX-SR876 is only $749.99 (refurb) at accessories4less, with a full year warranty, or $799.99 (brand new) with a full 2-year warranty! @ www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXSR876BLKA/Onkyo/TX-SR876-THX-Ultra2-Plus-140-watts-channel-7.1-Receiver-NEW/1.html* And the 707 is only $399.99, same place again! ===> That brand new 876 for only $800 is a NO-BRAINER! ___________________________ *** As for 3D, just get a Blu-ray player with 2 HDMI outputs, like the Panasonic DMP-BD350 (and many more to come); then take one HDMI to your receiver (876 ) for the Audio, and the other one to your display for 3D Picture. ...VOILA! ...Full 3D benefit.

How is the Onkyo 708 working out for you? I am in the same predicament and as opposed to buying a UMC-1, I'm considering getting the 708.
I don't have any analog sources for music so that is one factor that can be ruled out. Everything but the Wii will be connected via a digital cable of some sort. Thanks.

708 is $549, 808 is $679 & 1008 is $799. My thinking was that if I was going to go with anything higher than the 708, I would just get the UMC-1 at $699.
Decisions...decisions...
Either way, I'm going to pull the trigger in the next few days.

I picked up an SR707 for the kids HT/play room. Its actually an excellent piece(And I honestly feel that its "processor" section/functions is/are MUCH BETTER than the UMC-1). Got mine for $349 shipped from Accessories4less.

You can also get an A stock one for $399 shipped as well. I personally would rather save the $50 since Onkyo's have always known to be well built with long term durability.

I purchased a TX-SR707 and was quite unhappy with it. My two main issues were that the unit gets extremely hot during use and has large audible clicks whenever your DD audio signal drops out. This gets extremely annoying...
I returned mine after a week and got a UMC-1 and I am very happy with it. Don't cheap out and get an inferior product, you will regret it.

If you would have disable the Control (CEC-compatible HDMI components) feature; "Power Control" & "TV Control", your receiver would not have run hot at all! 2. If you would have assign some audio modes to all "Last Valid" from the Listening Mode Preset Submenu, you would not have any clicks at all (only with Cable Box TV when changing channels)! * Two issues with your Onkyo 707 that could have been easily prevented. Just sayin'...

Read the above post and you would have corrected the issues. I actually unloaded my UMC-1 for another Onkyo PR-SC886. And I find that the SR707 has a superior processor section compared to the standalone UMC-1 for half the price. Mine also runs all 4ohm magnepan speakers, at runs only warm to the touch. It also runs "bug free". Emo makes some great products, but the UMC-1 is not one of them IMO, I was very dissapointed overall with that processor.

Hmm... you say you have a SR707 that runs "only warm to the touch" - I'm gonna have to call you on that one. There is no such thing as an Onkyo AVR that stays that cool. Either your hands have no nerves in them or you have a counterfeit AVR. Or, try turning it on and see if it still is only warm to the touch. ;D

I can add that my 807 got VERY hot to the point you couldn't keep your hand on it for more than a few seconds. I also prefer the UMC-1 over it by a wide margin.

Quit snoozing if you want one. It's already back up to $430 but still a great price, even for a reconditioned unit!! ;D

The click noise when I was changing channels was just to much for me though.

The click noise when I was changing channels was just to much for me though. You then set something wrong then, in either the Onkyo or the cable box. Most likely a sound format the cable box doesn't output/support or was not set to. When both are matched up properly you will rarely if ever get that clicking noise when changing format.

Great prices on accessories4less, trying to decide which model though. It seems like on most of the Onkyo receivers the 12 trigger out is assigned to Zone 2. Is there an easy workaround for that when hooking it up to an amp (UPA-7)?
