The product page for the XBAL-1x2 Splitter is slim on details. I am curious if this incorporates a transformer design or is basically a Y cable in a box.
Based on the low price I assume no transformer, so is there an advantage of this over a Y cable?

Based on the low price I assume no transformer, so is there an advantage of this over a Y cable? i've been told there's no transformer; it is indeed a simple 1-into-2 splitter in a box. the advantage-such as it is-is that it allows one to continue to keep everything balanced throughout the audio food chain...and an RCA cable isn't balanced. -b

Sorry, I meant as compared to an XLR Y cable, not as an alternative to RCA.
