Will these two USB ports have the same functionality ie.. Can I hook up my Mac mini two either one and stream FLAC, AAC, and ALAF files

No, the USB of the XMC-1 will be the same as UMC-1: for upgrades only.
Mac mini via USB to XDA-1: will work fine. Alternatively, you could use the optical out of the Mac. Always make this as short as possible to keep Jitter low.

So then I could go optical out from the Mac to the XDA-1 or the XMC-1 right?

Also make sure not to "force" the optical cables into small bends.

I am trying to remember exactly what he said about how updates will be handled with it, but my memory is a little foggy. I think he said that it was going to be via ethernet connection. I think Big Dan also made mention about making the FW updates automatic on the XMC. Does anyone else remember what Emotiva said on this? |

FW update via ethernet would indeed be far better than via a USB memory stick. I was just quoting the feature in the "XMC Redux" thread, saying that the USB input was for FW updates only, not for music playback. |
