HI, I've had 2 xpa-5's and both of them had a low static noise for a brief second on startup, but no thumping. I am think the static noise might be normal.

Hmmm, very interesting. I have an XPA-5 powering my rear surrounds. It never used to, but now when I power up, I get a 'thump' sounds like the sub turning on, from the back right rear speaker.
Let me know if your new module fixes the thump, I may need to do the same.

Well I had an issue with my XPA5 back in Dec.. The right front channel would thump and "fart"15 seconds after shutting down, like it was powering down. I sent it in and they replaced the left front channel and it was fine but then in May I had an issue with the left front channel doing the same thing.Sent it in and they replaced that one also. Then I sold the unit as soon as I got it back. I like to have something I could rely on and this unit was not reliable. I'm not bashing here just stating a fact. Emo service is great but I need something I can depend on.
