I've been using my XPA-5 without issues for a few months now. I have an XPA-2 that I use for 2-channel and the XPA-5 looks after centre and 2 surrounds (2 of the channels aren't used at this stage)
While watching a movie the other night (With the volume pretty high) the warning lamps came on twice. The first time, the indicator lights for the 3 used channels started flashing red and the power button flashed amber. I power cycled it and it was fine for about half an hour then the light for one of the surround channels and the power button started flashing amber again.
I felt the unit, and it was barely warm. What else could cause the lights to turn red?
I haven't changed any wiring and I've used the amp for movies regularly. The only thing different was that I really had the volume cranked up.
The issue didn't reccur after I turned down the volume.
Does the amp have some form of detection to tell if it's frying the speakers? (They are only rated at 100W)

The XPA produces a lot of power. It's probably protecting your speakers from blowing especially if it works OK at lower volumes.

I'd check the speaker cables between the XPA-5 and the three speakers connected to it. You could have one that has just the smallest stray strand that is shorting .

Yes, check the cables. I had one banana that was loose and the same thing happened to me.
